Whipps Cross HospitalA full time Substantive Consultant post has come available at Whipps Cross Hospital.This post is for interested candidates with subspecialty interest in Perioperative Medicine and Paediatric Anaesthesia and has arisen due to service expansion and expected staffing changes.The appointee must be able to work flexibly and be able to cover all anaesthetic specialities provided for at Whipps Cross. There will be a requirement to join the out of hours consultant on call rota at Whipps Cross. Qualifications/Clinical Skills
Essential

  • CCT in anaesthesia or, if in training within 6 months of CCT
  • GMC Registered with a license to practice
  • FRCA or equivalent
  • 12 months or more dedicated advanced perioperative medicine training/fellowship
  • Continuous 6 months – 1 year of dedicated paediatric anaesthesia training – SIA/Advanced module – for DGH paediatric anaesthesia

Desirable

  • Experience of UK healthcare system
  • ALS and APLS
  • Consultant level experience in a DGH hospital

Special Knowledge/Abilities and/or Experience
Essential

  • Wide experience in aspects of general anaesthesia, elective and emergency, including acute pain management
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for the clinical care of patients

Desirable

  • Evidence of advanced training in other subspecialties relevant to DGH practice
  • General Consultant out of hours oncall experience in a DGH

Personal Skills/Qualities
Essential

  • Ability to communicate clearly and intelligently in written and spoken English
  • Ability to lead a multidisciplinary team, make decisions and exert appropriate authority.
  • Ability to build strong and effective relationships with patients, relatives and colleagues
  • Ability to cope with pressure and adapt to change

Desirable

  • Ability to direct and train medical, nursing, and other professions allied to anaesthesia
  • Ability to lead multidisciplinary protocol/process development
  • Management experience
  • Formal training in Leadership skills

Research, Quality Improvement, Audit
Essential

  • Understands research, QI and audit methodology
  • Actively encourages research, audit and QI work amongst staff and colleagues
  • Experience of QI/Audit/Research work in perioperative medicine and paediatric anaesthesia

Desirable

  • Published completed work relating to anaesthesia to a peer reviewed journal
  • Published or had accepted completed work relating to paediatric anaesthesia/Perioperative medicine to a peer reviewed journal/international meeting

  • Commitment to continuing personal development and medical education

Desirable

  • Experience in Clinical governance o Computer skills
