We are currently in an exciting period at the Mastercard Foundation as we intensify the implementation of the Young Africa Works strategy, aiming to empower 30 million young people throughout Africa to access dignified and fulfilling employment.
To ensure the Foundation’s accessibility to our partners and program participants, we have established offices in Rwanda, Kenya, Ghana, Senegal, Ethiopia, Nigeria, and Uganda. These offices provide strong in-country support for the implementation of Young Africa Works. We collaborate with governments, the private sector, educators, and other funders to enhance the quality of education and vocational training, equip young individuals with the necessary skills for the workforce, expand access to financial services for entrepreneurs and small businesses, and facilitate connections between job seekers and meaningful employment opportunities.

THE OPPORTUNITY
Reporting to the Director of Financial Planning, Analysis and Treasury, the Consultant will support the Foundation’s multi-year growth strategy by providing strategic financial oversight and risk management through financial planning, reporting, and monitoring, and by providing financial analysis for key decision-making.
WAYS YOU CAN CONTRIBUTE
- Lead the Foundation’s annual budgeting process including commitments, disbursements, operating expenses, capital investments and cash flow. Monitor progress during the year and create updated forecasts on a quarterly basis.
- Responsible for developing comprehensive multi-year financial plans for the Foundation, including models that project CRA disbursement quota obligations.
- Oversee the preparation of financial information for quarterly Board of Directors meetings.
- Create and maintain procedures for identifying areas of risks and opportunities in the Foundation’s financial performance.
- Enable data-driven decision-making across the Foundation by providing timely financial reporting and using data analytics to derive insights and provide recommendations to senior leadership.
- Review financial information for other ad hoc internal and external requests.
- Collaborate with the team responsible for implementing the Foundation’s ERP system. Enable data-driven decision-making across the Foundation by providing timely financial reporting and using data analytics to derive insights and provide recommendations to senior leadership.
- Provide financial analysis to support key business decision-making.
- Provide financial oversight of enterprise-wide operational initiatives including capital investments, strategic vendor relationships and system development projects.
- Oversee the financial business partnering process to ensure the management team of each functional area is supported with appropriate financial expertise to empower their decision making, including timely reporting, variance analysis and assistance with contract preparation.
- Instill a culture of cost-consciousness and value-for-money across the Foundation.
WHO YOU ARE
- CPA/CA degree with a bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting or Business Administration.
- 15+ years of progressively financial leadership roles in finance and accounting within not-for-profit, NGO or other global organizations, with at least 7 years in a management capacity with large organizations.
- Experience in a broad range of areas including financial reporting and analysis, accounting, treasury, audit, and risk management.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate successfully with internal business partners and external stakeholders.
- Experience building capabilities and capacity of teams in high-growth matrix organizations with decentralized operations.
- Financial and management reporting including forecasting, budgeting, and the related IT systems.
- Strong technical knowledge and ability to apply appropriate accounting treatments.
- Design & management of internal control systems, processes, and policies.
- Business partnership skills and Investments, banking and cashflow management.
- Understanding of CRA regulatory environment for not-for-profit organizations.
- Operational, financial, and business risk identification and management.
- Ability to challenge and provide feedback in a constructive manner with the goal of improving efficiency and operational excellence.
- Innovative and able to formulate new or creative approaches to problems.
- Flexible, adaptable, and able to execute a range of job duties and changing priorities.
- Possess excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills with the ability to articulate information to a variety of constituents across cultures.
- Possess professional maturity, sensitivity with different cultures, and impeccable integrity that exemplify the Foundation’s values.
