We are looking for enthusiastic doctors to lead the gastroenterology service at North Manchester General Hospital (NMGH). NMGH is the newest part of Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT). Its gastroenterology services has recently been disaggregated from the Northern Care Alliance service that previously provided gastroenterology care to the hospital.The post-holders in NMGH will join an established team of gastroenterologists in MFT who deliver inpatient care to three large acute hospitals (NMGH, Manchester Royal Infirmary and Wythenshawe Hospital) and outpatient care across Manchester and Trafford.Preferred Clinical Sub-SpecialtiesThis job is open to applicants with any sub-specialty interest in gastroenterology, however, the structure of the existing clinical gastroenterology team in MFT mean that applications from colleagues with sub-specialties in luminal gastroenterology especially in aspects nutrition and cancer.Main duties of the jobThe exact duties of the appointees will be subject to discussion, but a proposed programme of weekly sessions is based on a working week of 10 PAs (units of Professional Activity) in accordance with the Terms and Conditions – Consultants (England) 2003. Qualifications – Academic / Professional
Essential

  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practice

Desirable

  • Entry on the GMC specialist register for gastroenterology (or proposed CCT date within 6 months of the date of interview), essential for substantive appointment, but fixed term locum appointment to achieve CESR would be considered.

Research Experience
Essential

  • Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems

Desirable

  • Higher degree
  • Research publications and/or funding

Clinical Experience
Essential

  • Ability to take full independent responsibility for clinical care patients
  • Ability to perform upper GI diagnostic and haemostatic endoscopy with JAG patients

Desirable

  • Experience of working in specialist units (e.g. intestinal failure experience, advanced endoscopic practice, liver or intestinal transplantation centre activity, specialist IBD centre).

Management and Administrative Experience
Essential

  • Ability to organise and manage clinical priorities
  • Ability to manage and lead a medical team
  • Evidence of Audit

Desirable

  • Formal leadership qualification (e.g. through the NHS leadership academy or institute of leadership and management).

Teaching Experience
Essential

  • Experience of supervising foundation year trainees or equivalent
  • ability to teach clinical and endoscopic skills experience of teaching clinical skills to undergraduates

Desirable

  • GMC clinical and educational supervisor accreditation
  • JAG train the trainer accreditation
  • Clinical education qualification
  • Previous endoscopy academy experience
