Details:Mission and objectives:The Knowledge Management Team at UNOSSC is responsible for the development, modernization, and promotion of the UNOSSC South-South Galaxy platform. This platform serves as the primary hub for knowledge sharing, innovation promotion, and partnership brokering, designed to benefit UN agencies and member states. To date, the platform hosts over 600 registered organizations and partners, more than 960 solutions in South-South and Triangular Cooperation (SSTC), and a wide range of knowledge products. It also supports communities of practice, including the South-South and Triangular Cooperation Solutions Lab, which is a new service line aimed at facilitating and accelerating the use of data, technologies, and practical solutions to address the complex development challenges faced by countries in the Global South.
In 2024, the platform underwent a major redesign using WordPress, with integrated PowerBI and AI tools to enhance access to and use of available data. These updates aim to bring the platform closer to its end-users by improving functionality and exploring new use cases for the integrated technologies. Refinements and additional features are planned to further enhance the platform’s capabilities. To maximize its impact, the platform seeks to integrate with other thematic South-South web platforms to ensure interoperability and strengthen linkages between platforms, content, and organizations.
The Galaxy platform’s overarching goal is to facilitate knowledge exchange and foster new partnerships. Engagement with UNOSSC on this front will focus on practical applications and expert support, with tangible and measurable results achieved through the modernized platform. As the platform evolves, it remains committed to leveraging cutting-edge technologies and most updated content to advance South-South and Triangular Cooperation, ensuring it continues to address the needs of the global development community.Context:As part of the implementation of the Rollout Plan for the revamped South-South Galaxy platform, the online volunteer(s) will play a pivotal role in advancing, exploring, modernizing, and fine-tuning the platform’s existing content. This entails defining clear deliverables and implementing these within the framework of the current platform under the guidance of the UNOSSC Knowledge Management Team.The volunteer(s) will contribute to the modernization, diversification, and overall quality improvement of the content available on the South-South Galaxy platform. This role involves updating and displaying content, organizing the platform’s content library, and utilizing available tools.Task type:ResearchTask description:Online Volunteers will support with development of thematic pages on the South-South Galaxy platform.This task includes:
1) Mapping existing good practices, publications, datasets that are already available through the South-South Galaxy
2) Organizing content in the form of standardized thematic page(s), as per the provided template
3) Display of the thematic page(s) on the South-South Galaxy the existing page: Data Collaboratives – South-South GalaxyOverall, 8 thematic pages should be developed to cover the below topics:
1) Poverty eradication and emerging forms of poverty
2) Financing for sustainable development
3) Trade and sustainable development
4) Science, Technology and Innovation for development
5) Youth and future generations
6) Urban sustainable development
7) Energy transition
8) Inequalities and social inclusionRequirements: A BA degree or higher in Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Information Management, Computer Science, Journalism or similar is required.
Proficiency with CMS (specifically WordPress) for content management, updates, organization and maintenance is an advantage.
Experience with Web publishing and design tools, tagging systems, file organization techniques, structuring large datasets and libraries.
Basic understanding of AI chatbots and technologies behind. Experience with training datasets or content refinement for AI tools is advantageous.
Knowledge of tools for creating or editing graphics, infographics, and multimedia (e.g., Canva, Adobe Suite, Figma, or similar tools).
Proven skills in conducting online research to gather high-quality, relevant content.
Proven experience liaising with partners or stakeholders to collect case studies or resources.
Ensuring the accuracy of data and consistency in formatting.
Proven experience to write summaries, create concise descriptions, and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.Work Hours: 16-20
