The Bank’s principal role is to promote the economic and financial welfare of Canada. The Communications Department helps explain the Bank’s policies and activities to Canadians.
What you will do
The Content Writer reports to the Manager, Public Information, within the Communications Department’s Stakeholder Relations Planning team.
You are a subject-matter expert in external communications content development. You will ensure that complex public queries and letters to the Governing Council are drafted using the most up-to-date messages and materials. You will write audience-specific content for external stakeholders, and work through the communications product development and production process (e.g., web content, presentations, etc.). You will lead the content creation and development of the Bank Ambassadors program, an initiative to increase knowledge of the Bank’s work and impact on Canadians through employee engagement with educational institutions.
You recommend communications tactics to help achieve the department’s strategic objectives. You know how to focus on business needs and prioritize work to achieve results. You will use your knowledge of the Bank’s policies and priorities, public communications by the Bank and public sentiment to inform management of sensitive issues and provide advice on how to respond.
More specifically, you will:
- Write and/or proofread high-quality communication materials in response to incoming correspondence;
- Work with subject-matter experts to establish clear, plain-language responses to complex queries on various topics, including macro-economics, central bank digital currency, retail payments supervision and financial system stability (housing/mortgages);
- Plan, research, document, analyze and recommend topics to be covered in different delivery products in response to new communications trends;
- Contribute to the implementation of the Bank Ambassadors program by creating content (e.g., tool kits, presentations, guidelines, staff communications, external communications, etc.);
- Write ad hoc content to support other teams as required (e.g. web blurbs, short remarks, Qs&As);
- Proactively identify trends in public sentiment and propose solutions;
- Coordinate the approvals process for documents;
- Create both qualitative and quantitative reports on trends in public enquiries;
- Maintain statistics on metrics like volume and request type using CRM Dynamics 365 and Power BI and use these tools for further analysis and recommendations;
- Support the Manager, Public Information, in Access to Information record treatment and disclosure reviews, if and when required.
What you need to succeed
We are looking for someone with excellent oral and written communication skills. You possess knowledge of grammar, syntax, punctuation and the principles of plain language. You can distill complex information and concepts into simple text. You can write for various mediums, including formal letters, emails, and the web. You are conscious of tone and audience when you write. You strive for empathy and accuracy in your work.
In addition:
- You take initiative, work autonomously and you plan and organize your work effectively. You’re adaptable, resourceful and willing to learn. You are a team player with excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills.
- Composed and professional under pressure, you have demonstrated tact and judgement when dealing with sensitive topics and information. You have a keen eye for detail and how nuances in language can affect perceptions.
- You have previous experience in a public information, communications or a customer service environment.
- You have excellent technical skills, including the Microsoft suit and various reporting tools.
- You have knowledge of the Bank, its mandates, and its communications objectives, as well as a keen interest in economics, business news and current events.
Nice-to-have
- Familiarity with databases and tracking systems;
- Familiarity with analytical tools;
- Experience with project administration and/or project management.
Your education and experience
- Completed post-secondary education and at least three years of recent relevant work experience in researching, analyzing and preparing (including proofreading and editing) written materials for Senior Officers and Executives; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
What you need to know
- Language requirement: English and French essential (bilingual) with a minimum starting level of functional (level 4) in second official language. Training may be provided to help reach the required level of fully functional (level 5) in second official language.
- Priority will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents

- Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $77,855 to $91,590 (job grade 15)
- Depending on performance, you may be eligible for performance pay. The first tier of performance pay is for successfully meeting expectation, at 5 to 7% of your base salary. The Bank offers performance pay for those who exceed expectations (10% of your base salary).. Exceptional performers who far exceed expectations may be eligible for higher performance pay.
