Our client is a successful and growing distributor of products manufactured in North America. Due to an upcoming retirement, the company is looking to hire a Controller to lead the Finance Team. This is a 100% onsite role based at the Canadian Head Office in Burlington.Reporting to the Owners, the Controller manages a team of 3 staff. As part of the Senior Leadership Team and the top Finance professional, the Controller leads all finance and accounting functions for the company. The Controller manages full cycle accounting, prepares payroll, manages the month end, reconciles balance sheet accounts, and prepares financial statements for multiple companies. The Controller supervises A/P and A/R and is responsible for monthly government remittances. In addition to payroll processing the Controller administers benefits for staff.To be considered for the role of Controller, you should have 5+ years of full cycle accounting experience. You must have hands-on payroll processing experience. Experience managing staff is required. You should be computer savvy and be comfortable with Excel, ERP systems and ADP Workforce Now.Key Responsibilities:
– Responsible for the preparation of financial statements for multiple companies.
– Monitor and track daily accounting transactions; research issues to provide accurate cash management.
– Provide leadership and support to Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable.
– Manage the preparation and record keeping of payroll for two companies.
– Benefit plan administrator, including the addition, removal, and update of employee information in the plan. Respond to requests from managers and staff regarding payroll or benefits.
– Respond to requests for information from government, bank, or other agencies.
– Evaluate and maintain internal controls and processes; monitor for government updates and changes.
– Preparation and management of provincial and federal reporting and tax payments.
– Month end and year end computer management.
– Communication and reporting to leadership.
– Supply information and provide support for external accountants in preparation of the annual financial statements and tax returns.
– Other duties as assigned.Job Requirements:
– Proven work experience as a controller or related position.
– University or college degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
– CPA designation is an asset.
– 5+ years of overall accounting and finance experience
– Experience in creating financial statements.
– Demonstrated ability to process accounting entries and prepare reports.
– Experience in handling payroll; working knowledge of vacation entitlements, WSIB, Health and Safety and legislative information.
– Effective human resource management skills.
– Experience in working in multiple companies or departments.
– Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
– Strong organization skills and attention to detail.
