Job description
Reporting to the VP Operations, Finance, the Controller is responsible for leading all aspects of the accounting operations of the company.Important Note: This role is being posted on behalf of OJ Pipelines Canada Corp, like Valard, a Quanta Services Company.1. Management
- Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting responsibilities.
- Work with business to ensure compliance and effective controls.
- Responsible for reviewing and approving all bank transactions including cheques, EFT, and direct deposits.
- Protect operations by keeping financial information and plans confidential.
- Ensure to implement all Corporate Finance initiatives as required.
2. Transactions
- Ensure all Quanta’s intercompany & Geomatics transactions are booked as required.
- Record payroll in an accurate and timely manner.
- Ensure that daily bank reconciliations are completed.
- Maintain the chart of accounts.
- Maintain an orderly accounting filing system.
- Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions.
3. Reporting
- Issue timely and complete financial statements.
- Prepare and send monthly required reports to Quanta Services.
- Ensure that all financial reporting and procedural requirements are met.
4. Compliance
- Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors for the annual audit.
- Comply with local, provincial, and federal government reporting requirements.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration with a CPA professional accounting designation.
- Minimum 10 years’ accounting experience with at least 5 years hands on leadership experience operating in a relevant environment.
- Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including SOX compliance.
- Knowledge of federal and provincial financial regulations.
- Ability to analyse financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections.
- Extensive experience and knowledge in dealing with accounting systems.
- Strong problem identification and problem solving skills.
- Highly experienced computer skills in; Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Sharepoint, Databases, and Web-pages.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
