The Controller will be a key member of Nature United’s Finance & Operations team and will be responsible for the oversight and execution of all accounting activities. Reporting to the Director of Finance & Operations, the role is focused on the management, maintenance and reporting of financial data and the monitoring of internal controls and processes to ensure compliance with policies, standard operating procedures, and best practices. The successful candidate will bring not only strong technical and problem-solving abilities but also strong collaboration and communication skills. The Controller will have support from within the department, centralized services from our global affiliate, as well as external collaborators.
Responsibilities include:
- General ledger ownership for two distinct entities (one Canadian; one American) including execution of monthly and year-end accounting processes and preparation of required financial reporting
- Development/maintenance of working papers and review packages for Director of Finance & Operations
- Oversight of internal controls, payroll and banking activities with a focus on continuous improvement
- Owner and primary user of financial ERP systems for the organization; support of payroll functions, where needed
- Ownership of annual financial audit process and preparation of regulatory filing information
- Supporting other departments by providing timely and accurate financial information as required
- Leading on continuous improvement initiatives for the department, including but not limited to: detailed financial analysis, development of new working papers, research and documentation
- Technical lead for accounting research and due diligence projects
- Ensure policies and procedures, financial standards and legal requirements are met for compliance
- Leadership in supporting all staff with policies & procedures relating to financial operations

We’re looking for someone with excellent technical accounting, analytical and communication skills, and experience in leading continuous improvement projects. You will work closely with others in the Finance department as well as more broadly supporting all staff across the organization to advance our strategic priorities and reimagine conservation in Canada. What You’ll Bring:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) of Canada designation
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or business administration and 5 years’ related experience or equivalent combination
- Experience with accounting principles, practices, and regulations
- Experience working across teams and communicating with a wide range of people
- Experience working with ERP systems and financial accounting software
- Experience evaluating the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls
- Experience managing and implementing multiple projects
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Experience supervising and developing staff
- High ethical standards and a commitment to strive for excellence
- Multi-lingual skills and/or multi-cultural experience appreciated
- Advanced expertise in Microsoft Excel
- Experience monitoring for and ensuring compliance with organizational policy, applicable laws and regulations, and finance/accounting/management best practices
- Ability to resolve complex issues independently
- Experience optimizing data visualization to enhance how financial information is shared with key stakeholders
