Our client is an emerging player in the healthcare industry. Their mission is to provide healthcare facilities across Canada with highly qualified and skilled healthcare professionals. As a result of growth, they are currently recruiting a Controller to join their organization full time in the North End of the GTA.

The Controller is responsible for the direction and oversight of activities related to the timely and accurate recording of all financial transactions in the financial systems and in accordance with ASPE (Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises), established guidelines, policies, and sound business practices. The incumbent will direct and manage the company’s corporate accounting functions, including full cycle accounting, billing and collections, accounts payable, and payroll. The position will lead the operations and management of the team responsible for processing transactions and performing data reconciliations, financial accounting, and analysis.

As an early-stage company enjoying exponential growth, a critical part of the role involves ensuring that the ERP system is appropriate to support the business and lead the transition from its current platform to more robust capabilities.

The Controller reports directly to the CFO.

What you will be doing:

  • Lead month end management close ensuring accuracy and completeness of Profit and Loss Statement, and ensures timely reconciliation of key Balance Sheet GL accounts.
  • Manage the productivity and efficiency of several direct reports including annual reviews, merit increases, professional development, and succession planning.
  • Oversee the Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Payroll and General Accounting Teams.
  • Provide hands-on support to the business and financial accounting team with regards to general accounting.
  • Oversee preparation of comparative financial statements as well as monthly A/R Aging Report and related review for bank covenant requirements.
  • Responsible for continuously improving the accuracy and efficiency of reporting. Build a culture of continuous improvement/innovation in our way of working.
  • Provide and oversee analysis, support, and testing with ERP implementation.
  • Facilitate audits and queries related to payroll levies.
  • Lead and support all external financial audits.
  • Support the creation of the Risk and Control Matrix.
  • Serve as the internal control lead and provide training to control testers on an as needed basis.
  • Act as control/process owner for select financial and operational internal controls.
  • Banking and treasury functions as assigned.
  • Coordinate annual HST and other tax reviews and ensure compliance and optimize opportunities.
  • Ad hoc support as requested by the CFO.

Job Requirements:

  • CPA designation.
  • 5+ years experience leading and managing teams preferably in privately held companies.
  • High knowledge and understanding of ASPE accounting standards.
  • Prior ERP implementation experience would be considered advantageous.
  • Experience with ADP Payroll Systems.
  • Excellent oral/written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work as part of an integrated, broad team.
  • A high attention to detail.
  • Advanced computer skills (Microsoft 365®) and Power BI.
  • University degree and/or College studies a must.

Expected salary

$120000 – 130000 per year
