Purpose of the Job

The UK Country Director is a highly skilled professional who provides leadership and direction in line with the Vision and mission of Coptic Orphans. The person in this role leads organizational development and strategic planning, optimizes financial performance, builds donor relationships, and bears ultimate responsibility for the country office’s growth to further the mission of Coptic Orphans. The Director represents the organization before the Church, government representatives, major donors, partner agencies, local institutions, and the media in the UK. This professional works to ensure the effective implementation of policies and procedures established by the Headquarters Office in the USA. The Director reports to the Executive Director in the Washington, DC Headquarters.

The Country Director must possess a passion for, and commitment to, improving the lives and opportunities of the most vulnerable children in Egypt. He/ She must have an in-depth understanding of the uniqueness and challenges faced by the Coptic community in Egypt and abroad.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

1- Organization Administration: Ensures the organization has the administrative infrastructure that will achieve its mission. * Abide by the established affiliate agreement between the UK office and Headquarters.

  • Ensure the appropriate implementation of policies and procedures as they apply to child sponsorship, donor relations, financial management, and operations.
  • Maintain ethical standards and accountability, manage risk, perform due diligence, and implement operational best practices.
  • Maintain appropriate staffing structure and staffing forecasts.
  • Ensures the highest standard of service delivery through professional development, continuous improvement and proactively seeking capacity-building opportunities.

2- Fund Development: Develop resources sufficient to ensure the financial health of the organization. * Work closely with the Development Director to develop funding streams and long-term plans to best support the mission and goals of the organization.

  • Oversee funding efforts including sponsorship, donor cultivation, solicitation and stewardship, grants, special events, etc.
  • Actively participate in donor cultivation and solicitation.
  • Initiate efforts for the enhancement of Coptic Orphans’ image by being creative and visible in the Coptic Community and by working closely with the church and other private organizations.

3- Financial Performance and Viability: Ensures legal and financial compliance of the organization. * Maintain processes for proper record keeping and internal financial control.

  • Review analysis of financial activities (income and expenses) to discern trends, identify areas of improvement, address problems, and develop forecasts.
  • Responsible for the fiscal integrity of Coptic Orphans’ record, including submission to the Executive Director and the UK Board of a proposed annual budget and audited financial statements, which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization.
  • Maintains official records and documents, and ensures compliance with federal, provincial, and local regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Assures funds received are distributed in accordance with contract requirements and donor designations.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Effectively supervises all staff of the UK office.

Required Education, Experience, Knowledge, and Skills

  • Degree in Public Administration, Management, developmental sector, or related field.
  • Minimum 15 years of progressive management responsibility preferably in an NGO or nonprofit organization, to include significant operation and staff management.
  • Demonstrated effective management skills and experience, with a proven track record of program management, implementation, and monitoring.
  • Demonstrated experience in finance and grants management, budget control, and strategic planning.
  • Outstanding communication skills, a must, (verbal and written) in English. Working knowledge of spoken Arabic, reading a plus.
  • Deep connection with or exposure to the Coptic Community and the Coptic Church.

Fiscal Responsibilities

The Country Director participates in the creation of the annual office budget and has overall approval for all office expenses according to the office’s budget. He/she determines the delegation of expenditure approval to direct report staff.

Extent of Public Contact

The Country Director is the public face of the organization in the country and maintains contact and good relations through regular meetings and contact with all Coptic Orphans’ partners, stakeholders, and interested parties, including schools, churches, non-governmental organizations, etc.

Travel Requirements

  • Must be available for travel throughout the UK
