DescriptionThe Outreach Release Coordinator assists offenders develop skills conducive to successful reintegration into the community. This position is meant to facilitate clients building skills to deal with personal and social problems in (but not limited to) five key areas of life responsibility: 1) Communication skills; 2) Interpersonal skills; 3) Independent Living skills; 4) Leisure skills; 5) and Pre-Vocational and Employment Skills.The Outreach Release Coordinator encourages offenders released to the Victoria area to get involved in their community through casework, developing and working with support systems via direct experience.Hours :

  • 37.5 per week – Monday to Friday 8 am-4 pm.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists clients meet their need in the community as they make the adjustment from an institutional setting to the community (opening a bank account, navigating the local transit system, managing personal finances/budgeting, ).
  • Assists clients make doctor’s appointments and transports them to medical appointments.
  • Assists clients find housing and viewing potential rental units.
  • Work with clients to secure social assistance and/or disability, obtain identification and find employment opportunities.
  • Liaises between Community Residential Facility (CRF) Caseload Clients, Parole Office staff.
  • Escorts high risk offenders who have limited access to the community.
  • Liaises with members of the client’s case management team to facilitate resources to meet the client’s needs and reduces their risk.
  • This includes the directors and staff of other CRFs in the Victoria area (Manchester House and Bill Mudge Residence).
  • Assists clients seek leisure and volunteer opportunities.
  • Completes quarterly financial reports on spending and expenses for the Correctional Services of Canada (CSC).
  • Provides monthly progress reports to the CSC
  • Evaluates the outcomes on the following deliverables:
  • Resident satisfaction (survey) -Staff satisfaction (survey)
  • Attends and provides weekly case management update at weekly case management meetings.
  • Participates with the CRF team in institutional in-reach involving frequent overnight travels to the mainland.
  • Participates in upgrading/training at the discretion of the CRF.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must possess an undergraduate degree in criminology, psychology, social work or related education.
  • A minimum of two year’s related experience.

Experience and Skills:

  • Two years of related experience.
  • Knowledge of and experience in the field of Addiction and Mental health.
  • Must understand and reflect the ARC Philosophy, Standards, and Tenets.
  • Must have experience completing expense reports.
  • Must possess suitable typing skills, and basic computer literacy.
  • Must be calm in busy and sometimes stressful situation.
  • Must be well organized.
  • Must be presentable in appearance in accordance with ARC standards.
  • Must possess a valid class 5 Driver’s license.
  • Must possess and maintain an active valid First AidC.P.R. certificate.
  • Must have effective oral and communication skills.
  • Must have the ability to understand and be sensitive to cultural variations.
  • Subject to criminal records check for vulnerable sector and personnel screening request & authorization by Correctional Services of Canada.
