The Heberden Coin RoomThe Heberden Coin Room is a department of the Ashmolean Museum, in the University of Oxford. With c. 300,000 coins of all periods and all countries and collections of medals, tokens, and paper money, it represents one of the leading international coin cabinets (see: ).About the roleYou will support the Deputy Keeper of the Heberden Coin Room in looking after the c. 50,000 Greek and Roman Provincial coins in the Ashmolean Museum’s collection. You will, in particular, advance the digitisation of the coins under your care and oversee the rehousing of the reserve collections. Furthermore, you will look after visitors to the collection, respond to inquiries from scholars and the public, deal with image requests, advise on acquisitions and assist with the department’s programme of academic summer visitors.Supported by experienced museum staff and working in a talented team, you will acquire the key skills of modern curatorship.This is a part-time post, working on-site 18.75 hours per week (0.5 FTE) and fixed-term for three years.About youYou have a university degree in Ancient History, Classical Archaeology, Museum Studies or another relevant subject.You have museum experience and are aware of issues surrounding collections care, conservation, and security.You have excellent general IT skills and know how to document coins using a numismatic database.DiversityOur staff and students come from all over the world, and we proudly promote a friendly and inclusive culture.
