MSCI Data Acquisition and Collection collects 2.5K raw data points across 70K companies from 300 public sources, representing 1.7+M news articles and 1M documents per year (filings, AGM, etc.) leading to 20MN data updates per year. We focus on applying QA on input data, extracted from filings, news, websites, NGO, or received from various data providers. MSCI Data Acquisition and Collection team comprises of 200+ internal team size (review/validation) and 600+ external team (vendors) to support collection. The team’s main responsibility is to provide raw input data reported in publicly available sources. On a day-today basis, the team manages data production and coordinate with vendors and product content teams.The team is also responsible for quality review and ensures that data collected is up to date and adheres to data collection guidance and methodology defined by MSCI. Moreover, with the team’s consistent drive to innovate and leverage technology, the Data Acquisition and Collection team initiates and/or collaborates with other teams on programs related to data quality and process improvements, including but not limited to automation, workflow streamlining projects, and building data QA models.As a member of Data Acquisition and Collection team, you are expected to have a strong interest in general Environment, Social, Governance, Climate, and EU Regulation trends and an eye for detail on data quality. Following are the key responsibilities:

  • Searching for, procuring, and processing information about global companies on an as needed basis using multiple methods, techniques, and sources
  • Working with many different types of information sources (i.e. annual reports, websites, quantitative data feeds, web crawlers, news articles), types of information (i.e. quantitative data, key performance indicators, prose narratives), topics or subject matters (i.e. traditional financial risk, corporate governance, and sustainability) and types of analysis (i.e. rules-based, subjective analysis, written summaries)
  • Conduct an efficient data quality assurance (QA) process including assessing results, compiling, and reporting QA findings
  • Contribute to process improvements to ensure consistent data quality and efficiency, such as automation of data quality diagnostics by developing a new system/tool which will enable quality assessment of data without manual intervention
  • Running advanced tool on data analysis, such as jupyter notebooks
  • Work with internal stakeholders and downstream teams on understanding data requirement, data QC scope and data delivery
  • Contribute to working committees, projects, or perform other tasks as deemed necessary by the business
  • Reviewing and processing feedback from companies and responding to client queries.
  • A bachelor’s degree with at least 3 years of relevant experience required in one of these areas: Finance/Economics or Business Management, International Development & Relations, Social Science, Interdisciplinary Studies
  • 3+ Years of experience in data collection, research, and data management; ESG or regulatory related experience would be an added advantage but is not a must
  • Must have: Good command over excel tools and functionality dealing with large volumes of data
  • Strong skills (written and oral), proficiency in creating presentations, data analysis and excellent research and analytical skills
  • Good to have: Exposure to python / pandas or tools like Power BI and jupyter notebooks
  • Sound knowledge about equities or financial markets in general and knowledge on the company disclosures, filings, public company reporting including 10-Ks and annual reports
  • Experience in issuer relation and communication
  • Comfortable working in a team environment across hierarchies, functions, and geographies
  • Experience working on a global team in an international company is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with people in different offices and time zones
