Details:Mission and objectives:The Office of the Special Adviser on Africa is responsible for assisting the Secretary-General in coordinating, integrating and aligning United Nations action on the interlinkages between peace, security, human rights and development in Africa, enhancing international support for Africa’s development and security and facilitating intergovernmental deliberations on Africa at the global level, in particular those relating to the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD), which was recently transformed into the African Union Development Agency-NEPAD.Context:The Strategic Monitoring Unit (SMU) Data Team at the United Nations Office of the Special Adviser on Africa (UN OSAA) is committed to leveraging data to support Africa’s development and policy-making. We utilize data-driven insights to inform key stakeholders on progress and challenges facing the African continent across various sectors, including sustainable development, financing, industrialization, and technology. We are seeking creative and motivated online volunteers to assist with data analysis and research support which will contain country level information for all 54 African countries.Task type:Data processingTask description:The online volunteer will support data analysis and research, assisting in preparing data, conducting analysis, and summarizing findings to inform the policy innovation unit (PIU) at OSAA. The OVs will work on reports related to cluster 3 and nexus thinking in development. The role includes working with quantitative datasets, analyzing trends, and preparing insights for policy and research purposes.Tasks:Data Preparation and Exploration:Assist in preparing datasets for analysis, ensuring they are clean, consistent, and organized for ease of use.Conduct basic exploratory data analysis to identify patterns and generate preliminary insights.Document findings and highlight any data limitations or anomalies that may impact the analysis.Statistical Analysis and Interpretation:Conduct basic statistical analysis to support project needs, using descriptive statistics and visualization to communicate findings.Summarize insights from the data analysis, preparing reports and visual representations for internal use.Estimated output to be 1 report every 2 weeksRequirements:Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a relevant field (e.g., economics, data science, social sciences).Familiarity with data analysis tools and statistical methods.Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and communicate data insights.Detail-oriented with strong documentation skills.Work Hours: 16-20
