- Developing and preparing Decommissioning Plans, Building Removal Plans, Storage with Surveillance, and Environmental Remediation Plans that meet regulatory requirements and are easy for workgroups to follow.
- Gathering, analyzing, and assembling technical information from legacy drawings, reports, and logs.
- Ensuring documentation meets high standards of accuracy, content, and technical writing, and is reviewed by the Site Review Committee (SRC) and Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC).
- Interacting with regulatory personnel, including the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
- Assisting the Decommissioning & Environmental Remediation Planning Manager with reporting, investigating abnormal events, and providing technical support.
- Participating as a Decommissioning and/or Remediation Representative on on-site technical committees and work groups.
- Maintaining knowledge of Waste Management principles and volume reduction methodologies.
- Conducting field walk-downs to verify existing conditions and supporting maintenance work.
- Collaborating with teams to support decommissioning and remediation activities and preparing technical reports.
- Interpreting complex drawings and specifications and assisting with building transfer documentation.
- Identifying cost-effective technical solutions for maintenance or decommissioning activities and resolving complex problems.
- Other duties as assigned by your manager.
What we are looking for:
- Education
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or applied science from a university of recognized standing and the ability to become a Member of a Provincial professional engineering or geoscientist association (Professional Engineers Ontario or Professional Geoscientists Ontario).
- Experience
- Gained experience in construction and demolition techniques, particularly within nuclear environments.
- Acquired experience in industrial electrical, steam heating, and ventilation systems.
- Developed experience in systems, structures, and components associated with nuclear reactors and supporting nuclear facilities.
- Gained experience in applying the National Building Code, National Fire Code, and company program manuals to decommissioning activities.
- Developed expertise in CNSC regulatory documents and requirements, including CSA N294, CNSC Regulation Guide G-219, and the CNL Site License Condition Handbook.
- Gained hands-on experience in environmental site characterization and remediation.
- Developed experience in adhering to standards, regulatory requirements, and best methodologies for remediation, characterization, and risk assessment in nuclear remediation work.
- Acquired experience in environmental monitoring, including groundwater, effluent, and other environmental assessments.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to ask critical questions and engage effectively with stakeholders.
- Skills in organization and planning, with the ability to establish priorities, define action plans, set and meet deadlines, and monitor performance.
- Ability to take initiative, stay motivated, and build effective relationships with peers, internal teams, and external clients.
- Strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with various groups at all levels on both project-related and non-project-related activities.
- Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite for documentation, reporting, and collaboration.
- Knowledge and ability to apply applicable codes related to decommissioning nuclear sites and buildings.
- Expertise in applying applicable codes related to land remediation activities.
- In-depth knowledge of radiation protection principles, measurements, and contamination control, with a minimum Group 3 certification required.
- Ability to read, understand, and interpret complex specifications and technical drawings.
- Security Clearance Eligibility Required
- Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat’s “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”

Location:CNL works with employees across our Canadian locations to enable remote work when possible. This role requires that the majority of time worked be at CNL’s Chalk River Laboratory site while also providing opportunities to work remotely, where possible, if desired by the employee.
