Posting Summary Rutgers School of Dental Medicine (RSDM) – Office of Clinical Affairs is seeking a Dental Assistant to be responsible for the daily routine operation of a site for the Extramural Clinics. The Dental Assistant will assist dentist during the examination and treatment of patients and assist Dental Hygienist, if needed. The Dental Assistant performs both chairside and desk-side duties. This position does administrative, sterilizing and miscellaneous tasks, including but not limited to inventory, supply ordering, equipment maintenance, laboratory duties and radiation badge maintenance. The Dental Assistant will cover as a Dental Assistant as needed within the Extramural Clinics.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Prepares room for each patient, which includes setting up instruments and supplies.
  • Runs H2O through lines and hand pieces after every patient, as per ADA recommendations.
  • Takes and records vital signs on each patient at each appointment and update medical history. Passes instruments to doctor during examination and treatment of patients.
  • Charts results of doctors’ examination. 
  • Prepares dental materials for the dentist’s use. 
  • Maintains patient’s records in accordance with Quality Assurance Guidelines. 
  • Pour models, trims and evaluates the quality of diagnostic casts. 
  • Give post-operative instructions to patients and dismiss them. 
  • Maintains sufficient supplies on hand to efficiently run each operatory and the whole clinic, if assigned this duty.
  • Change quick dip x-ray solutions as needed (weekly). Wash, dry and bag all instruments used in the clinic. 
  • Takes x-rays as requested by the Doctor. Develops and mounts x-rays with proper identification. Keeps accurate records of all x-rays taken.
  • Ensures that laboratory reports have been prepared prior to cases being sent to the lab.
  • Maintains an accurate record of disposition of all cases. Inspects cases upon receipt from the laboratory. 
  • May be asked to cover at any one of the Dental centers in the Extramural Clinics.
  • Cleans up all discharged bodily fluids in the event that the environmental services/housekeeping is unable to respond promptly.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Graduation from an accredited Dental Assisting Program. 
  • Certification as a Dental Assistant (CDA) in the State of New Jersey. 
  • Valid Dental Radiologic Technology License issued by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.
  • CPR Certification.
