About the Organization The Dental Materials Laboratory at the Dental School examines both commercial and experimental dental resins, dental curing lights, and dental CAD/CAM equipment.
Job Summary Reporting to the Principal Investigator, the Dental Materials Laboratory Technician will assist the Laboratory Manager in the overall functioning of the lab related to studies, procedures and equipment maintenance. The Dental Materials Laboratory Technician will operate equipment that will test dental curing lights and dental resins as well as assess and use some dental CAD/CAM equipment.
Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure the Bruker 70 FTIR, spectroscopy equipment, and the hardness tester remain calibrated and running smoothly.
  • Responsible for the independent development of methods and procedures.
  • Perform a back-up of collected data, as required.
  • Assist the Laboratory Manager and graduate students in the lab, when required.
  • Design and run projects that study dental curing lights and dental resins. These projects may involve digital dentistry, CAD/CAM and 3D printing.
Note The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.
Required Qualifications
  • Masters degree in Science with a strong physics or chemistry background.
  • Good manual dexterity and familiarity with working in a laboratory environment.
  • Demonstrated experience handling a wide range of work situations and techniques common to optics and chemical analyses.
  • Must posses a current WHMIS and Dalhousie Laser Safety certificate.
Assets
  • Experience with Labview or Python.
  • Knowledge of Corel Draw, Origin Pro, 3D printing and computer aided designs.
  • Interest in developing, collaborating, and conducting own research projects for publication as first authors.
