JOB SUMMARY

The Department of Geography and Environmental Studies at California State University, San Bernardino invites applications for the part-time Lecturer pool. We welcome applications from candidates with expertise to teach undergraduate courses in the following areas:

· Environmental Studies

· Global Studies

· Physical Geography

· Human Geography (Cultural/Social/Political/Economic)

· Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and geospatial techniques.

Part-time faculty may be hired from this applicant pool as needed by the department to teach courses and be available for office hours. A list of courses offered by the department is provided in the CSUSB University Bulletin ( and candidates are encouraged to identify the courses of their expertise in the application cover letter. Appointments from the part-time pool are temporary and may be made on short-notice before the start of fall 2022 and spring 2023 semesters. A Master’s or Doctoral degree in Geography or related discipline is required by time of the appointment.

TYPICAL ACTIVITIES

Depending on student enrollments, a part-time Lecturer may teach between one and three courses per semester. Most courses will be taught in-person, but the position may also include online or hybrid courses using Canvas.

Qualified candidates must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse student population and to working effectively with faculty, staff and students across a wide range of disciplines.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • · Master’s or Doctoral Degree in Geography, or related discipline by time of appointment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

· Doctoral degree in Geography or related discipline by time of appointment.

· Previous experience teaching at the undergraduate level.

· Relevant professional experience and/or evidence of scholarly activity and publication related to the courses of expertise.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

The person holding this position is considered a ‘mandated reporter’ under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

Following a conditional offer of employment, a background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate may start work with CSUSB. ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Geography and Environmental Studies is housed in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, with three B.A. degree programs and minors: Geography, Environmental Studies (concentrations: Environmental Systems, Environmental Sustainability), and Global Studies. The department offers a GIS certificate and GIS minor. Courses for the award-winning interdisciplinary Model United Nations (MUN) program and student team are also supported by the department.

Lecturer A (Range 2) – $4,530 – $6,056

Lecturer B (Range 3) – $5,405 – $11,994

Lecturer C (Range 4) – $6,190 – $13,172

Lecturer D (Range 5) – $7,794 – $13,797
