Position description

The George Washington University Division of Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) and the George Washington Elliott School of International Affairs (ESIA) is seeking a Development Assistant, Elliott School of International Affairs. DAR is responsible for leading the university’s fundraising and alumni engagement efforts. ESIA is ranked 6th for graduate programs and 9th for undergraduate programs. The Elliott School is one of the largest undergraduate schools of international affairs in the U.S. This position is an integral component of achieving aspirational fundraising goals for ESIA.

Reporting to the Director for Constituent Engagement and Annual Giving, at ESIA, this position:
 

  • Provides programmatic and administrative support on various development and alumni relations activities.
  • Core responsibilities include supporting development professionals through the various development initiatives, including correspondence, creation of marketing materials, memorandums, letters, and gift agreements, in addition to travel, scheduling, and logistic support as needed.
  • Provides administrative support to the AVP, ESIA DAR, including booking travel and preparing expenses for reimbursement, scheduling meetings, correspondence, and top priority projects as requested by the AVP, ESIA DAR.
  • Provides employment and other research on potential prospects including current job title and company, as well as professional contact information. Sends tailored outreach messaging which has been written by the ESIA DAR AVP, to potential prospects to determine their interest in future engagement in philanthropy and/or volunteerism with ESIA. Reviews responses from outreach with ESIA DAR AVP and the Director of Constituent Engagement for referral to other team members.
  • Maintains the acknowledgment process to thank and steward ESIA donors, in collaboration with the Director of Constituent Engagement and ESIA DAR student employees.
  • Assists with entering contact reports for the ESIA DAR team, support to internal meetings, as well as work with ESIA DAR student employee team members, in collaboration with the Director of Constituent Engagement.
  • May serve as the primary point of contact for development and alumni-related events (dinners, meetings, receptions), including assisting with the planning, execution, and follow-up. Works to track activities related to development and alumni programs and initiatives.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma/GED plus 1.5 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
