Job description
The University of Glasgow and Queen Mary University LondonThe combination of four universities (Queen Mary University of London, University of Glasgow, University of Liverpool and University of Manchester) and four industry partners (GSK, AstraZeneca, Optum and Hammersmith Medicines Research) will provide a unique powerfully synergistic environment for the Fellows, allowing integration of expertise and technologies across academic and industry partners, and across all phases of drug development. The Fellows will be able to interact with the large cohorts of clinical and fundamental science trainees in the four Universities, including on UKRI Doctoral Training Partnership schemes, and with scientists in Industry. Fellows will have access to modern clinical research facilities in the Institutions, and access to state-of-the-art technologies through all the partners.Each Fellow will have a PhD Supervisory team in their university and an industry-based PhD supervisor with their industry partner. In addition, specific advice and support will be given by members of the Programme Management Board. In addition, Fellows will receive mentorship from senior academics who are not directly connected with the Programme within their HEI and from the Scheme’s Clinician Scientist Fellows (based at another HEI).In addition to mentorship the scheme will have a bespoke teaching programme that will be responsive to the Fellow’s specific learning needs and developments in the research environment and at the cutting edge of discovery. Fellows will also have a chance to link up with funded Doctoral Training Programmes in their respective universities, and with industry partners.Each Clinical Research Training Fellow will be employed by one of the 4 universities and will also be registered as a PhD Student and will plan and deliver a three-year PhD research project in collaboration with one of the industry partners.The expected start date for the successful candidates is 1st October 2025.
