The Countryside Development Officer is a new role, providing an exciting opportunity to get involved in a range of project development, project management and improvement activity, on both a site-specific and service-wide basis.Significant investment has been committed to enhancing the visitor offer at the County Council’s largest countryside sites, whilst we continue to improve the Council’s wider countryside estate of green spaces for communities, visitors and environmental benefit.With a focus on the County Council’s countryside sites, this diverse role will involve project development & procurement, project & contract management, report drafting, research & analysis and collaboration – making a difference to these sites and their users through service development and improvement. Main ResponsibilitiesThis post sits within Environment & Countryside’s Development Team. Reporting to the Development Manager, you will also work closely with managers and other colleagues in the Cannock Chase and Country Parks teams.You will be involved in developing and managing projects to support the improvement of County Council countryside sites and the wider Environment & Countryside service.More specifically, you’ll:
- Carry out and write up research and analysis to identify service provision gaps, needs or opportunities.
- Develop written, evidence-based project proposals in collaboration with colleagues.
- Commission desk-based studies and on-site projects; developing written specifications & associated procurement documents and overseeing procurement processes.
- Contract manage commissioned studies and projects; and support the management of lease and licence agreements located on countryside sites.
- Support the drafting and review of new / existing processes and procedures within the Environment & Countryside service.
The Ideal CandidateThis role is suited to someone with plenty of experience in project development, project management, fundraising and/or service improvement within the natural environment sector. Having knowledge and understanding of practice, policy and legislation relevant to the management of country parks would be an advantage.You will also:
- Be flexible and organised. Thriving on the variety that this role offers, you will be able to prioritise and manage your own workload; successfully delivering multiple tasks and projects at the same time.
- Have an ability to carry out, analyse and interpret research, data and evidence, using this to inform your development and management of projects.
- Build and maintain good relationships with a wide range of colleagues and stakeholders, putting your connections to good use to deliver collaborative projects across the service and beyond.
- Be an excellent communicator. You will have proven experience of presenting information and documents, both written and in-person, to a high standard.
