  • Work in a team based environment and responsible for the supervision and coordination of technical and staffing activities for designated area(s).
  • Oversee the quality of technical work performed, participate in recruitment and performance management and coaches and orientates team members.
  • Update and standardize policy and procedure manuals, compile financial and statistical reports and respond to enquiries.
  • Facilitate and coordinate research and development projects, participate in the management of computerized information systems and maintain inventory of supplies.
  • Perform technical procedures when required.
  • Supervise at least one (1) other Sonographer and a total staff of up to eight (8) FTEs.

Sechelt Hospital provides a full range of services to the community, including Emergency care, Renal program-community dialysis units, Mental Health and Substance Use Services, surgical services, birthing for low-risk pregnancies and imaging services.QualificationsEducation & Experience

  • Graduate of a recognized training program in Diagnostic Medical Sonography, preferably including Adult Echocardiography, and certified with Sonography Canada or the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or be certified with Sonography Canada and have passed the Sonography Canada Skills Assessment (CCSA).
  • A minimum of four (4) years’ recent, related experience, including one (1) year supervisory and leadership experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of theory and practice for Diagnostic Medical and Cardiac Sonography.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the standards of practice and guidelines for Diagnostic Medical Sonography practitioners established by the ARDMS or Sonography Canada.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of evidence-based practice.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of organization policies, procedures and standards of care, including practice of safe work procedures with ultrasound equipment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of research process and methodology.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of PACS/Radiology Information Systems, i.e. digital imaging, image archiving and retrieval.
  • Demonstrated ability to function as an effective leader, motivator, facilitator and team member.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach, demonstrate, facilitate, coach and mentor staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop procedure protocols and manuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote evidence based practice and a culture of creativity and enquiry.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop project plans and implement new projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate (orally and in writing) and deal effectively with clients and their families, co-workers, physicians, other health care staff and staff of external agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with and/or guide others in resolution of conflict issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and prioritize work.
  • Demonstrated skill in modality specific techniques and the use of applicable equipment and supplies.
  • Demonstrated skill in CPR techniques.
  • Demonstrated computer skills.
  • General knowledge of Trauma Informed Practice and Harm Reduction approaches and Strengths-based care.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote Indigenous Cultural Safety.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide competent and culturally safe care in a variety of settings and with diverse populations.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.

Closing StatementGeneral ultrasound and Echocardiography required.The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.
