We are seeking to appoint an outstanding individual as our new Data & Workflow Manager. The individual should be highly experienced in successfully designing and implementing digitisation workflows with excellent data handling and data curation skills.This role will help support the Science Collection Digitisation Project, an exciting and unique project to digitise RBG Kew’s 8.5 million plant and fungal specimens and create a complete catalogue of our internationally significant collections, making specimen records and images freely available online and accessible to researchers across the globe.The outcome of this project will provide a unique, world-leading resource making data accessible from more than 260 years of scientific exploration, placing them at the centre of efforts to combat urgent global challenges such as habitat degradation, climate change and human health.Hours of workFull timeContract TypeFixed Term (FTA)Contract end date31st March 2026Salary£36,338 per annum (pro rata) [Band D]DirectorateScienceLocationKew Gardens, RichmondClosing Date06/10/2024Documents(PDF, 1924.01kb)
(PDF, 124.58kb)More detailsThis role will lead the team tackling the digitisation of the specimens that were highlighted during the mass digitisation process as the most complex and needing post digitisation attention.This role will also support the design of new digital curation workflows as the digital collection records expand in number as digitisation progresses the effort needed for digital curation will increase and new processes need to be put in place and existing workflows streamlined.The individual should also have excellent problem solving skills and have successfully designed, implemented and improved digitisation workflows. Essential skills and experience required for this role include significant experience in the administration, manipulation, analysis, and interpretation of datasets, including transfer of data between database systems.The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew (RBG Kew) is a leading plant science institute, UNESCO World Heritage Site, and major visitor attraction.
