This position is in the Africa Section within the Country Campaigns Operations Division of the Department of Global Communications (DGC). In line with its strategy, the Section is focused on providing factual, balanced, and timely content about Africa, taking advantage of the continent’s evolving digital communications landscape for maximum reach. The incumbent will report to the Public Information Officer (Social Media).

Responsibilities

Within limits of delegated authority, the Digital Media Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Support the substantive content and digital campaign planning across all social media platforms.
  • Support the creation of original and creative social media content production to promote Africa Renewal content, campaigns, and priorities on social media and on the Web.
  • Contribute to the development and strengthening of social media presence, in a strategic and coordinated manner across all of Africa Renewal’s platforms.
  • Develop and review content for a wide range of communication materials for use on Africa Renewal social media channels.
  • Conceptualize and develop digital media content and assets in formats such as GIFs, social videos, quote cards and abstract graphic images, GIFs, social videos, quote cards, motion graphics, photographic, illustrative or more abstract graphic solutions.
  • Support research and fact checking and transform technical information into compelling social- and web-friendly creative concepts and copy for digital assets.
  • Organize, update, and maintain Trello boards for digital campaigns. This includes adding new and existing visual assets to boards with clear labels and instructions for use.
  • Provide guidance and support throughout the project production process; coordinate and follow-up with all relevant stakeholders and ensures that project in on schedule.
  • Supports in the growth of the audience for the Africa Renewal platforms.
  • Support the development of regular metrics and analytics reports on the performance and impact of the Africa Renewal social media platforms.
  • Performs other related work as required.

Work Experience

A minimum of seven years of experience in public information, social and digital media, or related field is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to five (5) for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher.

Experience producing content for social media and digital communication platforms is required.

Experience in supporting social media campaigns across multiple platforms is required.

Experience using graphic/motion, graphic design and photo editing software such as Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere and/or After Effects, and Canva is desirable.

Experience working for international organizations, design firms, advertising or in-house creative department is desirable.

Experience with Africa development context is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required; and knowledge of French is an advantage.

Assessment

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.

  • The position is available for an initial period of 6 months. The appointment or assignment and renewal are subject to the availability of the post or funds, budgetary approval or extension of the mandate.
