What You’ll be doing:

Reporting to the Senior Director, Accounting Policy and Advisory, the Director, Accounting Policy and Advisory will participate in the development, interpretation and implementation of CIBC’s accounting requirements. As part of this process you will consult with and obtain input from partners in Finance (including Statutory Reporting, Treasury, the Controllership teams and the CFO group teams), Technology and other impacted business areas. As a Director, Accounting Policy & Advisory you will liaise with the Canadian Bankers Association, other banks and the External Auditors on related financial accounting and reporting issues.

How You’ll Succeed

Accounting Requirements – Influence the development of appropriate external accounting requirements that are relevant to CIBC. Establish, maintain and communicate internal accounting requirements and ensure that these requirements are developed in full compliance with IFRS. Provide accounting recommendations for complex / significant transactions. Perform evaluation of the effects of accounting developments on CIBC’s financial accounting and reporting

Relationship Management – Liaise with the Canadian Bankers Association and directly with other banks on financial accounting, reporting and related issues and developments in Canada, the US and internationally. In addition, liaise with the External Auditors on financial accounting and reporting policy issues

Projects – Participate in project work as required and appropriate to ensure that financial accounting and reporting related changes are implemented in a controlled and timely manner

Conceptual and organizational skills – being able to see the “big picture” in a complex environment.

Problem solving and analytical skills – ability to elicit necessary information to provide value-added advisory services to internal business partners and ability to work independently.

Verbal communication skills both one-on-one and in small groups – being able to “sell” recommendations and obtain cooperation across functional groups to achieve objectives.

You’re a certified professional. You have current accreditation and good standing in an accounting designation, in addition to at least 7 or more years of relevant work experience.

You can demonstrate strong knowledge of IFRS, experience with implementing projects and a good understanding of banking and financial instruments. It is an asset if you have an understanding of US GAAP, SEC and OSC requirements.
