Meta is seeking an experienced and motivated lawyer to lead our data protection legal team’s work on a range of issues related to Artificial Intelligence (AI) across Europe and the United Kingdom, based in our European headquarters in Dublin (preferred) or in London. This role includes opportunities to advise Meta’s product and business teams on emerging requirements around artificial intelligence and automated decision-making working on cutting-edge issues in a fast-paced, fun environment. The role will be responsible for managing a team of expert lawyers, leading strategic legal counseling to internal legal, product, operations and business teams through all phases of product development as well as engaging with European data protection authorities, where required. An ideal candidate for the role will have a solid understanding of data protection, privacy and AI ethics principles and a strong grasp of online technologies. The candidate must be a clear communicator, be able to collaborate across functions, including Meta’s global legal counselling and product teams and have strong managerial experience. You will join a collegial and growing team of privacy lawyers who identify, evaluate and address privacy risk in light of emerging laws, compliance obligations and policies. This is a full-time position.Director & Associate General Counsel, Data Protection (AI) ResponsibilitiesServe as a company expert on European and UK privacy and AI-related laws and regulationsCounsel global product legal and product teams on compliance with existing law and on preparation for emerging legal regimesEngage with regulatory authorities in Europe and the UKHelp respond to regulatory inquiries and investigations related to AIProvide legal advice and day-to-day support to the internal stakeholders, including Meta’s legal, DPO, AI Organisation and other product and business teamsMinimum QualificationsMeta requires all employed attorneys to have a law degree or equivalent certificate to permit the practice of law and be appropriately licensed and authorized to practice law for the company in their assigned work location. Unless prohibited under local law, an attorney must hold a current practicing certificate (including where required from the relevant authority in the jurisdiction of the assigned work location) or the local law equivalent bar registration or license as may be applicable.Solicitor or barrister (qualified to practice law in at least one European jurisdiction or the UK).Extensive relevant legal experience, including at a law firm or prior in-house experience, ideally at an internet or technology company.Experience with AI technologies and with European and UK data protection and AI-related laws, regulations, principles, and industry guidelines, especially including those relevant for social media, internet and technology companiesBusiness judgment and client counseling experienceCommunication and presentation skills with proven success, specifically manages to distill complex concepts and translate insights and data into actionable recommendations for leadership.Preferred QualificationsExperience working on AI-powered productsExperience working directly with Data Protection Authorities.Experience demonstrating initiative in driving solutions cross-functionallyExperience managing complex projects in a multi-stakeholder environment, navigating complex issuesExperience managing teams and leading cross-functional effortsExperience working proactively, independently and reliably under tight timeframes in a fast-paced environmentExperience working at internet or technology companiesKnowledge of, or fluency in, other European language is a plus.About MetaMeta builds technologies that help people connect, find communities, and grow businesses.
