- Ensure credit applications are adjudicated promptly, within the Bank’s risk selection parameters.
- Ensures maintenance of assigned Portfolio quality, by overseeing the portfolio, monitoring trends in risk rating migration and credit conditions, overdue reporting and annual reviews, etc. Identifies problems and initiates appropriate corrective action.
- Supervises Team members and is responsible for the overall efficiency of the Team as reflected in minimal turnaround times, staffing levels, etc. Provides direct reports with coaching, direction, and guidance on credit and other matters when required. Is primarily responsible for team engagement and alignment with the Bank’s strategic direction.
- Manages the partnership and liaises with business partners in Commercial Banking and other business lines, as needed, to maintain open communication ensuring good service levels are achieved and maintained to internal customers. Negotiates with Commercial Banking partners to ensure credit terms and conditions are appropriate and sound risk decisions are achieved. Provides guidance to Commercial Banking in the preparation and structuring of credit proposals. Has direct involvement with Commercial Banking Group Leads and their respective teams concerning credit transaction and training issues as necessary.
- Contributes to the development of the Bank’s commercial human resources by identifying training needs and ensuring that individual coaching and group coaching is provided to Commercial Banking and Global Risk Management Team members.
- Identifies and contributes to driving continuous improvement at the Bank by identifying policy and process fixes and enhancements; drives the development, acceptance, and execution of efficient and effective solutions; partners with other Directors to ensure consistency of practices and interpretation of policies and practices.
- Coordinates the team’s contributions to broader Bank initiatives.
Requirements:
- Thorough understanding of Commercial Banking and the Bank’s credit policies and procedures
- Expert understanding of Bank lending policies and procedures, financial analysis, risk assessment techniques, credit structuring, collateral and security documentation and registration, collection, related legislation, and accounting practices.
- Strong leadership skills as demonstrated by the management of a team of adjudicators.
- General understanding of various and diverse industries in which he/ she will be required to make / recommend credit decisions and must also be attentive to local economic trends within the assigned geographical area.
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral) to converse effectively with line and corporate personnel.
- Ability to make decisions, frequently in the face of uncertainty, and clearly communicate rationale for decisions.
- Resourcefulness, resiliency, tenacity, and a high degree of collaboration are desirable attributes.
- Bilingual (French/English) verbal and written is required for the role.
