Job SummaryJob DescriptionWhat is the opportunity?This position is an integral part in development life cycle ensuring use of appropriate Big Data technologies. You would ensure appropriate physical design and successful implementation and management of Big Data infrastructure, and provide oversight for the resolution of Big Data integration, interface, connectivity, coding and performance problems experienced by RBC developers.What will you do?Develop effective business and technology relationships with key stakeholdersProvide oversight in the technical design of applications to ensure optimal use of software facilities and featuresProvide support and hold teams accountable for adherence to standards and policies; escalate non-conformance.Provide oversight for the creation and maintenance of Big Data environments. Lead and/or coordinate activities to resolve complex technical issues/problems.Maintain awareness on global trends and provide relevant context to the technical and business leads.Support the research and evaluation of new software capabilities; produce strategy/direction papers on changes in Big Data technology and its impact on RBC business.Provide training, coaching and mentoring to senior Technologists to maximize their level of technical expertise.What do you need to succeed?5+ years demonstrated technical expertise and experience leading a team in Big Data TechnologiesHighest level of proven competence with Big Data administration, application performance analysis & tuning.Experience designing and building distributed systems, with a focus on resilience and performance.Knowledge of automation using REST APIs and Java/PythonKnowledge of business intelligence tools, enterprise middleware and security tools and standards.Very strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to communicate with people in a wide variety of areas and at various levels from technical specialists to senior managers.Ability to quickly learn and absorb new concepts (in business and in systems), apply new knowledge as appropriate and transfer knowledge to othersExperience with Spark, Hadoop, Kafka and StormExperience with NoSQL databases (HBase)Experience with Cloudera Data Platform (CDP)Experience with Enterprise databases solutions (Teradata, SQL Server)What’s in it for you?We thrive on the challenge to be our best, progressive thinking to keep growing, and working together to deliver trusted advice to help our clients thrive and communities prosper.
