Job description
The Faculty of Open Learning and Career Development develops and delivers innovative and diverse educational programs for more than 3000 students annually to help them navigate the changing world of learning and work. Reporting to the Dean, the Director, Educational Development will work collaboratively with a wide-range of stakeholders to drive the quality and consistency of courses of all delivery modalities in the Faculty.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead strategic and tactical plans for the Faculty’s educational development and instructional design, in alignment with the Faculty’s strategic plan and emerging strategy. Regularly track and accountable to meet key performance metrics in educational development.
- Contribute to Faculty strategy discussions, decision-making and approvals as a member of the Faculty Governance Council, and to Faculty tactical planning and implementation as a member of the Academic Standards and Quality Control committee.
- Review the needs and situation analyses conducted prior to the development of a new course to ensure adequate information for quality course development. Manage new course development and course revision processes.
- Complete in-depth regular reviews of all courses in consultation with relevant Faculty committees. Support Directors to complete accreditation applications or renewals for courses and certificates, and to map and audit courses specific to accreditation standards.
- Lead the design and production of new courses and revision of existing courses working with instructional designers, instructors and/or subject matter experts. Ensure course outlines, objectives, learning outcomes, content and assessments are relevant, actionable and meet Faculty standards.
- Directly supervise Instructional Designers as well as provide guidance and direction to instructors, facilitators, and subject matter experts regarding course building and educational development.
NoteThe successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Education or Master’s degree in Curriculum Development, Instructional Design, Education Technologies, Adult Education or related topic, plus approximately five years relevant experience (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
- Experience within instructional design, teaching and learning in higher education, educational technology, training, and development, and/or a related field.
- Competency in applying evidence-informed teaching practices, strategies, and approaches; in developing courses and instructional resources, preferably for adult learners; and in learning theories and instructional design models.
- Advanced knowledge of tools within learning management systems and commonly used education technologies in a teaching and learning environment along with the proven ability to learn new systems and technologies.
- Effective interpersonal and communication (verbal, written and presentation) skills, including experience writing copy, instructional text, and audio and video scripts; and leading and collaborating on cross-functional and multi-disciplinary teams.
- Excellent analytical reasoning, problem solving, and organizational skills with the proven ability to multi-task and establish priorities and meet deadlines with minimal direction.
