What is the opportunity?

RBC Global Asset Management (RBC GAM) is the asset management division of Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) and is a provider of global investment management services and solutions to institutional, high-net-worth and individual investors through separate accounts, pooled funds, mutual funds, hedge funds, exchange-traded funds and specialty investment strategies. RBC GAM manages close to $600 billion of client assets globally and have approximately 1,700 employees located across Canada, the United States, Europe and Asia.

This opportunity is a key role within Global Asset Management (Finance) who will lead the planning, forecasting, analysis, driver-based reporting and financial controls of the GAM business. The purpose of the role is to provide business leaders value-add advice and actionable financial information to enhance performance and create shareholder value. It is also critical to ensure the overall integrity and completeness of financial results.

**This role can sit in either Toronto or Vancouver

What you will do?

Financial and Management Reporting

  • Manage financial performance information for the GAM business. Responsible for the development of insightful analysis and actionable information to support business decisions.
  • Work closely with GAM regional finance teams to ensure accuracy and completeness of GAM financial results and provide leadership for month end close processes and related deliverables.
  • Oversee the GAM seed capital accounting function including governance, accuracy, and reporting.
  • Act as a point of contact for the BlueBay finance team and responsible for high level oversight of global results including data integrity in sub-ledger and EPM.
  • Provide accuracy, analysis and timely reporting of GAM operating results – notably AUM, Net Sales, Eliminations, Revenue, NIE and Taxes to diverse stakeholders.
  • Proactively take ownership of RBC standard quarterly disclosures to RBC Finance teams as well as for GAM Leadership Committee reporting packages.
  • Act as an advisor for any eGL account / transit queries and assist with internal and external audits and integrity of GAM balance sheet and income statement.
  • Responsible for reviewing assigned account reconciliations, SODs and PEGA Attestation processes and provide oversight for clearing of outstanding items.

Business Advisory Support

  • Provide financial reporting and advice to senior management in GAM business, Finance and functional areas through identification of issues and ongoing monitoring as well as provide analysis of strategic initiatives.
  • Effectively support the planning process with timelines, expectations, completeness and proactively present business and financial trajectories to GAM management.
  • Work collaboratively with regional teams, BlueBay and other partners throughout the quarterly forecast, annual budgeting and 5YO processes; ensuring that respective trajectories are reasonable.
  • Continuous development and maintenance of the suite of analytical reports covering key business drivers, including assets, sales, channels, products, fees and markets returns.
  • Effectively understand, communicate, and lead financial implications and analysis of GAM sub-advisory and intra-group relationships across diverse GAM businesses.
  • Initiate dialogue and develop an ongoing understanding of business strategies to ensure GAM Senior Management has a clear picture of the firm’s financials.
  • Support senior executives in GAM and other local business heads on various business cases and proposals to support financial analysis for business growth, PARs and seed capital opportunities.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline, enhance efficiencies and automate several key processes.
  • Work on GAM related presentations, communicate process changes and provide financial and business review of emerging accounting changes to diverse stakeholders.

What you need to success?

Must Have

  • Accounting Designation (i.e. CPA)
  • 7+ years of corporate finance or accounting experience in a senior role within a financial institution.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a strong client service orientation – willingness to take all issues through to a successful resolution.
  • Must be able to deal with a variety of issues on a concurrent basis with the ability to work within tight timelines and work with changing priorities.
  • Strong team and people management abilities, and ability to play a leadership role across a wide group of peers
  • Keen sense of numbers and strong analytical skills with ability to multitask and handle high-pressure executive level requests on a continuous basis
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and concisely summarize complex issues

Nice to have

  • Knowledge or experience of Asset Management industry a plus
  • Multiple stakeholder management skills
  • Knowledge of RBC legal entity/management structure an asset
