Responsible for identifying, assessing, and applying for external funding opportunities. In partnership with college leadership, this position identifies college needs, including personnel, equipment, and other resources, and coordinates activities needed to secure funding to support these needs. This position serves as the main grant writer at the college and leads the proposal development for Foundation, State, and Federal grants. Coordinates with the Director of Grants Performance to ensure successful implementation of grant activities. Facilitates strategic partnerships with internal and external stakeholders. Contributes to special projects as assigned.
This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule that includes some telework.  
This position is open until filled.
Position may have occasional travel between campuses and for training. Occasional after hours may be required due to college events and partnerships or travel.

Essential Duties

Grant Proposal Development (75%)

  • Maintains open lines of communication with college stakeholders to identify specific resource needs not supported by state funding.
  • Identifies potential grant and other external funding opportunities to address resource needs, and assess if the opportunities are feasible to pursue. 
  • Works with the Division of Institutional Advancement to facilitate funding-related and strategic activities to include: conducting efficient proposal writing processes; leading budget development; conducting effective project planning; coordinating proposal teams; researching and reviewing funding opportunities; analyzing competitive position and risk; proposal editing and submission. 
  • Maintains complete and orderly records of all proposals, letters of support, partnerships and other pre-award and post-award instruments. 
  • Facilitates and supports strategic partnership activities with business/industry, community organizations, internal partners, and other entities by participating in partnership meetings, assisting in negotiations of roles and duties, and the drafting of supportive documents in collaboration with the AVP. 
  • Coordinates, as needed, with program and contracting officers at the various local, state and federal funding agencies on grant submission and administration issues.
  • Leads effective and timely grant kickoff meetings with project directors for all assigned grant-funded projects; works with college leadership to provide quarterly reports on the progress of grant-funded proposals to college administration via BOT reports. 
  • Participates in the daily/annual departmental responsibilities including strategic planning; operational plan implementation; general office administration; professional development; annual evaluation and reporting; budgeting; purchasing; accreditation requirements; and the development of policies and procedures
  • Maintains a database for reporting and tracking all proposal and grant information and activities, and is responsible for performing timely updates and ensuring the accuracy of information on the Grants & Strategic Initiatives website. 
  • Participates on various committees as appointed. 
  • Directs special projects for the AVP, including grant training and grant-seeker initiatives.

NSF EARTH Center Business Office/Grants Office Project Liaison (25%)

  • Serve as the Business Office Project Liaison to the NSF CREATE Center. Work jointly with the Project’s PI and grant team to track and manage budget. Prepare, track, and submit all quarterly reimbursements for subawards and contractors.

Employee is expected to perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the position to advance the mission of the division and Central Carolina Community College.

Minimum Requirements

Required educational background:

  • Associate Degree required in related discipline 

Required kind and number years of work experience:

  • 5-7 years of project management, grant or other professional writing, and budgetary experience in technical or educational fields. 

Required knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Ability to provide effective leadership and work with limited supervision to move grant proposals forward within a large/complex organization; 
  • Superior organizational skills and ability to balance multiple priorities simultaneously;
  • Proven fiscal management skills and budgetary experience;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Ability to utilize technology effectively;
  • Ability to analyze data and prepare reports and to effectively present information orally and in writing to administrators, faculty, students, and the community;
  • Understanding and respect for the diverse backgrounds of students, staff, and college community.
Preferred Requirements
  • Experience with federally-funded programs, including knowledge of regulations and reporting procedures;

  • Knowledge of and experience specifically with TRiO programs, objectives, and regulations;

  • Experience in a community college setting;
