Position Summary

The Director of Content Creation develops the strategy, evaluates analytics, and directs and leads a team of content creators in developing a broad catalog of organic, marketing, journalistic and communications-focused content that fuels the College’s communications and marketing campaigns while elevating the CNM brand. Strategizing with the Chief Strategy Officer, the Director of Marketing Performance and the Director of Brand Strategy, the Director is responsible for directing, leading, developing, managing, and deploying strategies for communications, organic and marketing content that promotes a positive image of CNM. The Director is responsible for CNM’s social media strategy and oversees its implementation across all social channels. This role also manages the work activities of the Media Production Services team, directing and prioritizing requests for photo and video content. Additionally, this role serves as a communications leader in assisting other departments and schools at the College with effective communications, social media and marketing campaigns, directing strategies and creative guidance that aligns individual programs, events and initiatives with the College’s brand strategy.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Creates, develops and implements content creation strategies that advance the College’s brand and strategic direction.
  • Analyzes data analytics and adjusting strategies and tactics to maximize the impact of communications, social media and marketing content.
  • Administers College’s social media strategy and oversees implementation of strategy across all social channels, both paid and organic.
  • Leads and directs staff in the creation of communications, social media and marketing content, leading them through the development of news stories, photography, video, social media posts and other written/visual content that supports a positive representation of the CNM brand and broad engagement with CNM offerings and strategic initiatives.
  • Acts as creative director making editorial decisions, planning, managing, developing, and implementing a variety of key communications designed to reach and engage CNM students, employees and external constituents.
  • Directs and leads the creation of a perpetual stream of high-quality organic social media, marketing and communications content, including photography and video, that fuels campaigns and advances the brand strategy of the College.
  • Provides leadership, mentorship, coaching, and creative support to the communications and organic content team. Also recruits, leads, manages and mentors up to five content creation interns.
  • Works with content creators to lead the Media Production Services team, as well as MCO’s Content Creators, helping them continuously improve writing skills, storytelling, photography and video content. Prioritize work and requests for videos, audio, photography and journalism content according to the strategic needs of CNM.
  • Leads and directs the overall strategy, voice, and content of CNM’s social media channels, working in tandem with paid advertising efforts to promote the CNM brand with organic digital content.
  • Collaborates and strategizes with the Senior Director of Communications & Media Relations in strategic communications, social media and marketing efforts that advance the Mission, Vision, and Values of CNM, both within the College and externally through media relations.
  • Serves as the Senior Director of Communications & Media Relations’ partner and backup in emergency mass communications and media relations, requiring on-call availability 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
  • Makes decisions on creative content direction and utilizes high-level journalistic and communications skills to develop content that can be shared with local and national media for positive news stories, and engages with media outlets to coordinate positive coverage of CNM.
  • Directs, makes editorial decisions, guides, manages, edits and produces content for CNM’s weekly employee and student newsletters with high journalistic standards. Evaluates newsletter software analytics and makes decisions on adjusting strategies to increase effectiveness and engagement with CNM’s newsletters.
  • Directs, leads and implements tactics to improve the College’s social media effectiveness, engagement and number of followers, and directs the Social Media Manager in carrying out social media strategies.
  • Makes editorial decisions and responsible for ensuring the quality and style of photography for social media and communication platforms, as well as marketing campaigns.
  • Provides creative direction and manages video content for social media, newsletters, and web pages.
  • Shoots, edits and delivers high-quality photography to bolster effectiveness of marketing and communications content on cnm.edu, social media, and marketing materials.
  • Manages a calendar of non-paid organic and communications content using digital/cloud-based project management tools, utilizing collaboration with other Marketing & Communications Office staff for other needs (design content, web content, etc.)
  • Explores and utilizes new platforms, features, content types, etc. as opportunities arise for CNM.
  • Works with internal stakeholders to identify opportunities for news stories & other content in alignment with marketing and communications strategies.
  • Writes clear, concise, grammatically correct and compelling copy that connects with students, employees, general public and other target audiences in various venues, such as news stories, feature stories, social media, newsletters, press releases, marketing materials, mass emails to students and employees, website copy, fact sheets and various other communications.
  • Oversees all media inquiries and public relations issues when Senior Director of Communications & Media Relations is on leave or unavailable, requiring on-call availability 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Business, Marketing or a related field and five (5) years of relevant experience

Preferences:

  • Experience in journalism and journalism management
  • Demonstrated experience in multiple social media channels
