The Director of Finance is accountable for ensuring that constant adherence to internal financial controls and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) are maintained at all times.ResponsibilitiesFinancial Control and Risk ManagementEnsure the efficient and effective management of all financial functions for Centurion. Develop and monitor compliance of internal financial controls to ensure that the organization is protected from risk and that all statutory requirements of Centurion and its family of companies are met. Oversee the preparation of timely bank reconciliations, monitoring cash flow movement, completing regular cash flow forecasting and initiating the transfer of funds. Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants, coordinating mortgage/debt funding and discharge. Assist with the successful financing of new acquisitions by arranging closing funds and refinancing existing debt obligations. Assist with the management of Centurion’s funds, processing monthly cash distributions and redemptions, reconciling units, funds, and distribution amounts with accounting records, and assisting with the monthly NAV calculation. Complete corporate accounting duties, maintaining accounting records of ancillary companies.Financial ReportingOversee the preparation of quarterly consolidated financial statements and notes to the financial statements for three mutual fund trusts in accordance with IFRS. Participate in the completion of Management Discussions and Analysis as well as Annual Reports. Assist with the quarterly portfolio valuation process and manage the preparation and review of monthly reporting packages. Research and monitor the development of new accounting standards and assess the impact of the new standards. Develop new financial reports in the accounting system as required.Operational AccountingWork closely with the Vice President of Residential Operations and the Associate Director of Asset Management to ensure financial information is provided on a timely and accurate basis; resolving issues related to revenue and property accounting as necessary.Compliance, Audit and TaxationMaintain relationships with Auditors, acting as the main point contact for any audits of Centurion related vehicles and other accounting related matters. Maintain established audit systems and procedures, preparing audit working papers and schedules accurately and resolving any audit issues efficiently to ensure minimized audit costs to the extent possible. Oversee quarterly and annual tax filings, including T2, T3, T5013, and Commodity Tax. Develop tax reporting schedules and working papers. Research new taxation rules and assess the impact of the new rules. Assist with corporate entity setup and maintenance.Expertise and SkillsThe selected candidate should possess strong financial management acumen; knowledge of accounting procedures and protocols, analysis and reporting. Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to provide leadership and direction to a team and work in a team environment. Strong project management experience with the ability to develop, monitor and evaluate projects with multiple deliverables and deadlines. High comfort level and tolerance to manage stress and role demands. Develop and foster positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Ensure proactive timely resolution of all co-worker inquiries. Lead, motivate and mentor the finance team, addressing performance issues as required. Complete other duties as assigned.Requirements
- Completion of a bachelor’s (or Master’s) degree in Finance and/or Accounting;
- CA designation;
- 5 years’ of external reporting and corporate finance experience; public and/or private real-estate industry experience preferred;
- Demonstrated high level of leadership and managerial skills;
- Extensive knowledge of IFRS, tax laws and regulations;
- Excellent command of Excel with strong verbal, analytical, organizational and written skills; and
- Experience with Yardi property management accounting system considered an asset.
