The University of St Andrews is seeking an exceptional rowing coach to build on the continued growth and success of the University rowing programme, with a strong focus on the development of the Coastal Sculling discipline in partnership with both Scottish Rowing and the GB Rowing Team.This is an exciting time for coastal sculling with the introduction of Beach Sprints to the Olympic programme in Los Angeles 2028, and the University is looking to appoint an experienced and highly motivated Director of Rowing on a full-time basis to drive forward our ambition to be the leading centre of excellence for this discipline in the country.You will work with a group of dedicated student athletes who are committed to success in both their academic and athletic pursuits. Complementing our other seven sports specific directors, you will work closely with colleagues in Strength and Conditioning, Performance Analysis and Sports Development, as well as the Boat Club committee. The successful candidate will lead the rowing programme to develop a strong pathway at all levels for both the men and women.With direct access to some of the finest beaches in the country, top-class training facilities at Saints Sport and through working closely on a weekly basis with Scottish Rowing’s Beach Sprints Pathway Coach, St Andrews offers an unrivalled opportunity for talented rowers to progress to international level in the Olympic discipline of Beach Sprints.The University of St Andrews has been at the forefront of Beach Sprints in Scotland and has been working closely alongside Scottish Rowing to develop a Coastal Sculling Performance Centre at East Sands in St Andrews, with joint ambition for creating a world class training and competition venue, building towards Commonwealth and Olympic Games over the coming years. The University was one of five new GB Coastal Sculling Academies accredited by British Rowing in November 2023.Candidates should have substantial experience of planning and delivering coaching programmes, ideally in higher education. Experience of coaching Coastal Sculling would be advantageous and to support our ability to produce Olympic standard athletes.
