What is the opportunity?
RBC is a leading provider of asset-based loans for a wide variety of industries and client situations across Canada. As a Director on the Portfolio Management team for RBC’s Asset Based Lending (“ABL”) business, you will be responsible for the management of a team as well as an assigned portfolio of diversified ABL clients that roll into one of RBC’s Corporate Client Group and Canadian Banking books.
Your ability to manage client relationships and successfully partner with internal RBC stakeholders to align RBC’s risk appetite with the needs of the client, will lead to your success in the role as you contribute to the overall growth of the ABL portfolio by partaking in the deal origination process (where required), and retain existing clients within RBC by providing sound advice and recommendations.
What will you do?
Manage all aspects of an assigned ABL portfolio including:
Providing senior management oversight to an assigned team of Vice President(s) and Associate(s) along with indirect account coverage of their respective book of clients
Maintaining interactions with clients managed by the team; attend to client asks requiring credit support and offering guidance and advice in a professional manner
Maintaining responsibility for credit renewals, amendments, annual reviews, portfolio reviews and credit documentation (CCMS, loan advances, legal documentation etc.). Ensuring all documentation is reviewed, confirmed, accurate and enforceable.
Proactively managing accounts by analyzing financial & collateral reports to ensure negative trends are identified early & measures taken to ensure RBC’s exposure is adequately protected.
Proactively identifying issues and opportunities during the account management process to deliver advice and solutions tailored to meet client needs that are paired with appropriate recommendations to Risk Management.
Documenting management plans and exit/liquidation strategies for accounts when required.
Retaining and negotiating profitable renewals with existing clients.
Partake in the deal origination process on select new accounts, where and when required, to effectively partner with the ABL Origination team to structure, deliver and close new transactions
Support CCG relationship managers in the preparation and presentation of marketing pitches to existing and select potential clients
What do you need to succeed?
Must Have
MBA and/or professional designation (e.g., CA, CPA, CFA), or a post-graduate degree with a focus in business, accounting, economics, mathematics or other quantitative field with strong financial modeling, analytical skills and an ability to analyze company financial statements.
5+ years of experience in client facing roles in a commercial, corporate banking or ABL environment.
Able to demonstrate strong verbal communication and negotiation skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with clients and internal RBC partners
Experience in recruiting, training, managing, and developing a team of high performing credit professionals
Ability to perform well under pressure, meet time sensitive deadlines, prioritize work and multi-task responsibilities while working on multiple projects
Demonstrated financial/business acumen and experience in conducting financial/risk analysis to assess and structure banking solutions.
Excellent written communication skills
Nice to Have
Familiarity with RBC credit processes and loan documentation
Trained in credit and accounting with an ability to manage complex concepts
Previous banking experience with relationship management, structuring/writing credit proposals, credit processes, policies, and risk analysis would be a significant asset
French reading/writing/communication skills
