Job SummaryJob DescriptionWhat is the opportunity?As Director, Taxation you will join the RBC Taxation Group and serve as a key contact and resource for insurance taxation. The business is global in nature covering Canada, the U.S. and other international jurisdictions.You will provide business-oriented solutions to tax issues and provide corporate tax support for insurance and reinsurance business.What you will do?

  • Collaborate with Senior Business and Functional Partners and Peers to provide tax planning and advisory services to RBC Group companies; manage tax issues in respect of major transactions and business proposals.
  • Research and resolve complex tax issues, develop & implement tax efficient strategies and provide tax advice covering matters which may include inter-company transactions, foreign affiliates, insurance products, cross-border transactions and transfer pricing.
  • Provide M&A support including participation in due diligence reviews.
  • Review corporate tax provisions and tax filings of insurance subsidiaries. Manage and oversee corporate tax audits and tax compliance processes.
  • Represent RBC Group in dealings with tax authorities, professional organizations and industry associations with respect to insurance tax matters.

What you need to succeed?Must Have

  • Professional Designation (CA CPA, LLB or JD)
  • Tax professional with 7+ years of relevant work experience, preferably in a financial services company, CA firm or law firm
  • Completion of CPA Canada’s In-depth Tax Program
  • Exceptional knowledge of Canadian tax laws and a general understanding of foreign affiliate taxation
  • Understanding of IFRS and tax accounting
  • Exceptional tax research capabilities & analytical skills
  • Strong business acumen and sound judgment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) to effectively communicate complex tax issues to Tax and Non-Tax audiences
  • Ability to develop trust and credibility and to engage the cooperation of others
  • Highly motivated with the ability to influence and build relationships
