Job Title: Dispatcher

FLSA Status: Exempt

Summary Schedules and coordinates shipments with owner operators by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Enters units into the system that are ready for dispatch; Compiles list of available owner operators and available trips.

Assigns vehicles according to factors such as, length, purpose of trip, freight or passenger requirements, and preference of user.

Issues keys, record sheets, and credentials to drivers.

Confers with owner operators to expedite or locate missing, misrouted, delayed, or damaged merchandise.

Print off dispatch, pulling the packets and any permits needed for the trip. Putting all the necessary paperwork into an envelope and write drivers name on it. You need to make notes on drivers pay worksheet when needed and get management approval (written on pay worksheet) on any rate change or extra pay; these then need to go to the pay clerk.

Calling drivers when necessary to dispatch out loads, taking phone calls from drivers and answering their questions.

Other projects assigned by terminal manager to help keep office running smoothly including but not limited to the following: doing yard inventory, asking customers for freight, entering claims into Trip Track, gathering paperwork for shipments, ordering permits, processing border crossing paperwork.

Education and/or Experience

High School degree or G.E.D.; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; Ability to write simple correspondence; Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
