Job Summary and Qualifications

The Division Assistant Vice President of Medical Staff Services assists the Division Vice President of Quality with implementation of and compliance with credentialing initiatives/processes. The incumbent is expected to maintain a working knowledge of applicable HCA Healthcare and Parallon Credentialing Processing Center (CPC) policies, accreditation standards and regulations associated with medical staff services, and play a key role in the integration of HCA Clinical Strategies and HCA systems. The Division Assistant Vice President of Medical Staff Services contributes to the company’s mission and vision by directing and leading credentialing colleagues and activities for the South Atlantic Division. The AVP is also accountable for the legal, regulatory, and administrative aspects of multiple separate and distinct Medical Staff Organizations (e.g. Governing Boards and Medical Executive Committees). This position has a span of influence that reaches all areas of the company from providers to the Governing Boards. The Assistant Vice President must be able to develop trusting relationships to include physician leaders, internal and external stakeholders, and be an advocate for Medical Staff Services. They must also be able to facilitate many confidential issues with a high degree of sensitivity, tact and diplomacy. This position has responsibility for implementation of all CMS, and Joint Commission accreditation/licensure standards, state and federal peer-review laws and HCA Healthcare Ethics and Compliance policies. The position requires flexibility to address issues that arise demanding immediate attention, as well as continued surveillance of ongoing tasks to ensure effective outcomes.

Key deliverables for this position includes the establishment of high standards and consistent practices to include continuous compliance with regulatory, peer review, and risk standards. In addition, it includes continual improvement of communications, ensuring currency and validity of data within the operating systems, optimizing the Cactus credentialing database, and reducing duplication of efforts through streamlining systems to increase effectiveness of the department and division operations. The position leads the department in the acquisition process of new hospitals and collaborates with various departments playing a critical role in physician recruiting and retention, aspects of the HCA performance improvement and patient safety initiatives, and to accomplish the work of the division. This position is instrumental in decision making and resolving service problems to ensure physician satisfaction.

What qualifications you will need:

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in medical staff services science, business, or related field of study strongly preferred. Master’s Degree preferred.

CERTIFICATE/LICENSE: Certified Professional Medical Services Management and/or Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist within time period specified by Division Vice President of Quality.

EXPERIENCE: 5+ years comprehensive credentialing experience in an acute care hospital or CVO setting required. 2+ years supervisory/management experience required. Quality and/or patient safety experience highly preferred.
