About the Role 1

This post is located and line managed in the University’s Doctoral College.

The role provides general clerical and administrative support for the Centre for Arts Doctoral Research Excellence (CADRE) and the Midlands 4 Cities AHRC funded doctoral training programme. As part of friendly team, you will be involved in a diverse range of activities associated with supporting admissions, scholarships and training opportunities.

About You 1

We are looking for people with outstanding customer service skills and the willingness and enthusiasm to provide the very best standards of student support. You will also have excellent communication skills as regular liaison with internal and external people will be necessary. You do not need to have previous experience of working within a university or working in an educational student-facing role to apply. An ability to organise conferences and other events including travel arrangements is essential. You must be able to prioritise your own workload, and to use your own initiative to work independently as well as within a team.

You will have excellent organisational, administrative and IT skills with good working experience of Microsoft Office packages and an ability to quickly learn and use new IT systems. Knowledge of Sitebuilder web software is desirable.

Full training will be provided as appropriate. Whilst training you will be expected to be working all of your working hours in the office. There may be scope for some hybrid working later, but as this is a student-facing role, the majority of the time will be spent on campus. The part-time role can be across 3 or more days.

About the Department 1

The support for the Faculty of Arts doctoral training and scholarships is located in the University’s Doctoral College and is part of wider doctoral training support team. The Administrative Assistant will work with professional colleagues within the Doctoral College team, academic and professional colleagues from the Arts academic departments as well as with other central service staff and postgraduate research students from across the faculty and the wider university.

The Doctoral College is the central team with oversight of all postgraduate research degrees. We cover a wide variety of functions which requires liaising with every academic department and most professional services teams. We are a small but vibrant team which works flexibly to ensure we provide excellence of service while maintaining healthy life/work balances.
