You will play a crucial role in delivering our exceptional services in nature restoration, Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), Appropriate Assessment (AA)/Natura Impact Statement (NIS), Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA), habitat surveys, reporting, and mapping. This position offers opportunities to enhance your skills in species identification, digitisation, and habitat management, restoration, and rehabilitation. We serve clients across the transport, water, energy, and urban markets and have built a stellar reputation for successfully delivering many of Ireland’s most challenging and complex projects from early-stage development.Role Overview:We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Ecologist to join our dynamic, warm and friendly team. This role is pivotal in conducting a variety of ecological surveys across Ireland, including multidisciplinary assessments of habitats, invasive species, mammals, bats, breeding and wintering birds, and amphibians. Although you do not necessarily need to be a specialist in any of these taxa or specific habitats, good experience in carrying out Extended Phase 1 survey would be essential. The ecologist will also be responsible for data collection, mapping, and contributing to ecological reports. You will work with and be supported by our ecologists across Ireland and Northern Ireland who are immersed in nature restoration projects, emerging areas such as biodiversity metrics and have also developed a track record in Appropriate Assessment and knowledge of protected site networks in Ireland. For this role you will have a key interest in carrying out ecology surveys, carrying out a variety of impact assessments including those on protected sites, supporting our colleagues across transport, energy, advisory, water and infrastructure and seizing opportunities to restore and enhance nature on every project. You will receive is a well-rounded experience in a variety of landscapes in Ireland and will be provided support in developing competencies aligned with the Chartered Institute of Ecologists and Environmental Managers (CIEEM).As an Ecologist at Arup, you will:
- Conduct or co-ordinate a variety of ecological surveys (habitats, invasive species, mammals, bats, breeding and wintering birds, amphibians, etc.)
- Collate and analyse ecological data
- Produce detailed maps and contribute to ecological reports
- Collaborate with our environment team in Ireland and ecologists in Northern Ireland and the UK
- Manage and deliver Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA) and Appropriate Assessments (AA) (screening, Natura Impact Statement (NIS))
Qualifications and Experience:
- Proven experience in conducting ecological surveys
- Experience in managing and delivering Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA) and AA
- Interest or experience in restorative design and nature-based solutions is advantageous
- Full member of CIEEM and at least working towards chartership
- Strong data collection and mapping skills
- Excellent report writing abilities
