For additional information on remote work at Penn State, see .JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:Penn State Global is seeking an enthusiastic, detail-oriented Education Abroad Sustainability Assistant to join our team at Penn State’s University Park campus. The Sustainability Assistant will report to the Assistant Director for Academic Services or their delegate, but will support varied projects and initiatives across Education Abroad (EA) relating to climate action and carbon reduction in Penn State Global programs and operations as well as the intersections between the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and global learning. Some projects might include managing the Global Sustainability Scholars program; Stay Local Abroad initiative; web content creation; sustainable event planning and support; sustainable travel practices; greenhouse gas inventories for program and office operations or other priorities identified by EA leadership that match the respective skills and interests of the individual filling this role.The Education Abroad office is a fast-paced and student-centered environment that serves as the primary administrative office facilitating education abroad opportunities at all Penn State campuses. This is a part-time position, and interested candidates must be available approximately 15 hours per week for the fall and spring terms.Job Responsibilities and RequirementsThe successful candidate for the Sustainability Assistant position will be responsible for the following:

  • Learn about the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and how they intersect with global learning
  • Develop an achievable set of goals for the year in collaboration with EA leadership
  • Manage a portfolio of sustainability-related programs and events including the Global Sustainability Scholars, Stay Local Abroad, and Global Sustainability Action Day.
  • Learn about carbon emissions in international travel and global education; support plans and efforts to address, mitigate, and reduce carbon emissions and climate impact of global learning
  • Identify and complete additional sustainability-related projects relevant to global learning
  • Support larger sustainability efforts within Penn State Global and the University as a whole

The Sustainability Assistant will be based at Penn State University Park campus (Boucke building). Some remote work may be possible in consultation with the assistant’s supervisor.This position would be an exciting opportunity for a current student or recent graduate interested in the fields of global learning or sustainability. The successful candidate will have excellent communication and organizational skills as well as proficiency in Microsoft 365. The ideal candidate will have some practical or course-based experience with sustainability topics and be eager to learn more as required by assigned projects.
