Job Description:

Your New Role – Education Advisor!

This position serves as the education advisor to the Governor on K-12 education and early childhood. Responsibilities include acting as a liaison with State education agencies, the legislature, tribal nations, boards and commissions, and partners. This position requires an advanced ability to collaborate and coordinate effectively to solve problems and generate solutions; provide clear and actionable information, guidance, and feedback; and make decisions using good judgement and an analytical lens that centers good government, efficacy, and equity. This position will report to the Education Initiative Director.

The Office of the Governor is looking for an individual who believes each and every child is full of potential and deserves equal access to opportunity to succeed and graduate from high school ready for college or career; the quality of teaching and learning are just as important as the conditions and climate that contain the teaching and learning; historic and current disparities in student outcomes shine light on the policy, budget, and practice challenges we can address collectively while also raising the bar to support all students better.

Minimum Qualifications Required:

Seven years of executive-level policy development or foundational experience directly related to the position being recruited

OR

Equivalent education and experience

Requested Attributes:

Ability to build positive working relationships with public K-12 education and early childhood and communicate vision, expectations, guidance, and feedback clearly.

Ability to apply an analytical lens throughout work that centers good government, efficacy, and equity. and foster high-quality outcomes.

Ability to review and provide feedback on documents quickly and with attention to detail, create documentation when needed.

Knowledge of major funding streams or policies in for K12 education or early childhood (e.g., State School Fund, Student Success Act, Early Learning Account).

Understanding of the State’s role and responsibilities relating to K12 education or early learning services. General understanding of the impact of the education system on children and youth who are historically and currently underserved.

Understanding of tribal sovereignty or curiosity/readiness to fill knowledge gaps upon hiring.

Knowledge of best practices for inclusive leadership practices include but not limited to: self-reflection; building trust and understanding with peers and partners; curiosity and ability to respectfully question current policies and practices; design and facilitate inclusive meetings; invite and use constructive critiques and different perspectives; give and receive constructive and direct feedback to foster continuous improvement toward equitable outcomes.
