BACKGROUNDThe UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) has been operating since 2012 under the auspices of the UN Secretary-General. The SDSN mobilizes global scientific and technological expertise to promote practical solutions for sustainable development, including the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Climate Agreement. We aim to accelerate joint learning and promote integrated approaches that address the interconnected economic, social, and environmental challenges confronting the world. The SDSN works closely with United Nations agencies, multilateral financing institutions, the private sector, and civil society. It is directed by Professor Jeffrey D. Sachs and operates through offices in New York, Paris, and Kuala Lumpur.The Program is an initiative led by the in support of UNESCO’s Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) for 2030 Roadmap. Its mission is to empower schools and teachers globally to educate students on sustainable development, global citizenship, and 21st century skills. The vision of the program is to generate interest about sustainable development in schools in an effort to educate and engage students with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and to encourage them to prioritize the goals in their lifestyles, behaviors, education, and professional careers. The program aims to do this by transforming learning environments globally and making schools hubs of ESD, ultimately becoming vehicles for mobilizing students to take local leadership for the sustainable development in their communities.SCOPE OF WORKAs an Education Intern for the Global Schools Program, your main responsibility will be to support staff and consultants with curriculum development, program management, and communications related tasks. The intern will support the team by developing curricular content for schools worldwide, supporting the implementation of digital teacher training programs, and showcasing the impact of the Global Schools Program through designing creative communications materials, contributing to outcome reports, helping with events management, and other related tasks.RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design curricular materials for primary and secondary schools, such as activities guides, lesson plans, and case studies that promote the achievement of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs);
- Support in the organization and management of online teacher training and professional development webinars for educators in the Global Schools network across 100+ countries;
- Create communications assets such as blog posts, press releases or social media graphics to showcase program impact and school-led projects;
- Support in the organization of Global Schools events at UN summits, including the ECOSOC Youth Forum, and other similar symposia.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Eligibility to work in the United States is required.
- MA candidate studying education, sustainable development, international development, public policy, social sciences, or a related field.
- Experience in education and curriculum design. Prior experience as an educator or working with school communities, including with youth, parents, teachers, or students is considered a plus.
- Prior experience facilitating or supporting digital training programs or online events for large international audiences.
- Able to manage multiple tasks, is well-organized, and works well both as part of an international team and independently.
- Exceptional writing and communication skills.
- Prior experience in educational program design and management is considered a plus.
IMPORTANT INFORMATIONDuration (dates and total time): 6 months. Feb 3, 2025 – July 31, 2025 (up to 20 hours/week)Compensation: $19/hour (up to 20 hours/week)Location: NYC or Remote. Candidates based in NYC that plan to come into the office must show proof of vaccination per the SDSN COVID-19 policy.Conditions: As this is a US-based position, SDSN is required by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services to secure verification of eligibility to work in the United States.
