Special Educational Needs (SEN) Educational Teaching Assistant (ETA)Job Title: SEN Educational Teaching Assistant (ETA)Reports To: SEN Coordinator (SENCO) / Class TeacherLocation: Huddersfield, HD5Job Summary:The SEN Educational Teaching Assistant (ETA) provides support to students with special educational needs (SEN) within a school setting. The ETA works under the direction of the SENCO and classroom teachers to help students access the curriculum, participate in learning activities, and achieve their full potential.Key Responsibilities:Student Support:

  • Assist students with special educational needs on a one-to-one basis or in small groups.
  • Implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and behavior management strategies.
  • Support the emotional, social, and academic development of SEN students.
  • Help students with personal care tasks if required (e.g., toileting, feeding).

Classroom Assistance:

  • Aid the classroom teacher in delivering lessons tailored to the needs of SEN students.
  • Prepare and modify teaching materials to suit the learning needs of students.
  • Encourage inclusive practices and help SEN students integrate with their peers.

Communication:

  • Maintain regular communication with the SENCO, teachers, and parents about the progress and needs of SEN students.
  • Participate in meetings to discuss and review the progress and strategies for supporting SEN students.
  • Provide feedback to teachers and the SENCO regarding student performance and any concerns.

Administrative Duties:

  • Keep accurate records of student progress and any incidents that occur during the school day.
  • Assist in the preparation and maintenance of SEN resources and equipment.
  • Support the implementation of school policies and procedures related to SEN provision.

Professional Development:

  • Attend training sessions and professional development opportunities related to SEN.
  • Stay informed about current best practices and developments in SEN education.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to share knowledge and effective strategies for supporting SEN students.

Qualifications and Skills:Education and Training:

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Additional qualifications or training in SEN education (e.g., CACHE Level 2/3 Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools, Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools) is desirable.

Experience:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people, particularly those with special educational needs.
  • Experience in a school or educational setting is preferred.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude towards supporting SEN students.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and other professionals.
  • Good organizational and record-keeping skills.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to respond to the varying needs of students.

Working Conditions:

  • Hours: Typically based on school hours, with potential for additional hours for meetings or training.
  • Environment: Work is primarily carried out in a classroom setting, with potential for some work outside the classroom (e.g., on field trips).
  • Physical Demands: May include lifting and assisting students with mobility, as well as standing for extended periods.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
