If you answered yes, our Whiteshell Laboratories (WL) site located near Pinawa, Manitoba is looking for an Electrician to join the team. The Electrician plans, installs, tests, inspects, troubleshoots and services all types of industrial electrical equipment that are vital to the operation of commercial and industrial businesses. These include all equipment or components directly or indirectly exposed to electric power such as motors, generators, pumps, lighting systems, and associated electrical and electronic controls. They must have the experience to safely remove electrical services and systems as well as assess the suitability of existing services for future use Does this peek your interest? Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) employees perform all duties in accordance with established health and safety and regulations/guidelines, policies and procedures (i.e. utilizing personal protective equipment as per safe work procedures). Notifying management or supervisor of all occurrences, injuries, illnesses or safety and health concerns which are likely to harm themselves, their co-workers or any other on the premises in a timely manner and in accordance with established reporting requirements.
What will you be doing?
· Reading and interpreting building plans, electrical, mechanical and architectural drawings and electrical code specifications to determine wiring installations.
· Cutting, threading, bending, assembling and installing conduits and other types of electrical conductor enclosures and fittings.
· Pulling wire through conduits and holes in walls and floors.
· Laying out, assembling, installing, repairing, maintaining, connecting and test electrical fixtures, apparatus control equipment and wiring for fire alarm, communication, light, heat and power systems.
· Positioning, installing and maintaining distribution and control equipment such as circuit breaker panel boards, fuse enclosures, switch boxes, pullboxes and related devices.
· Splicing, joining and connecting wire to form circuits.
· Installing data cabling and fibre optic systems.
· Testing electrical circuits to ensure integrity and safety.
· Identifying and reporting any real or potential safety hazards; wearing all safety equipment related to the position as well as participating in all safety-training offered through the facility.
· Adhering to Workplace Safety and health procedures, WHIMIS program; keeping current with practices; working in a prudent and safe manner and informing other employees if they are using unsafe work practices or equipment.
· Maintains confidentiality in all matters.
· Other duties as assigned by manager.
What we are looking for:
· Security clearance eligibility required: Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of three (3) years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security”.
· Must be a high school graduate or equivalent.
· Completed apprenticeship training or equivalent and be qualified as a Construction & Maintenance Electrician with a 309A or HC License/Interprovincial Red Seal ticket.
· Ability to troubleshoot situations and work with peers and other stakeholder to resolve issues in a timely manner.
· Must be punctual, dependable and safety minded.
· Detail oriented with the ability to meet deadlines.
· Exceptional organizational skills, able to prioritize and time management is required;
· Ability to understand detailed information is essential.
· Demonstrates responsibility and is accountable for accurately handling the details associated with one’s work.
· Conscientious about accuracy.
· Ability to adapt to a changing environment and response with initiative.
· Excellent interpersonal communication skills and proven ability to maintain successful working relations at all levels within the organization and with external stakeholders.
· Highly motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
· Able to work extended hours and off normal work shifts to support project needs.
Formal training and demonstrated proficiency in the following areas of study:
· Blueprint Reading and Drafting;
· Industrial and Electrical Codes;
· Electrical Practice and Safety;
· Tools and Instruments;
· Electrical Theory;
· Alternating Current and Direct Current Theories;
· Basic and Industrial Electronics;
· Single-Phase Transformers, Three-Phase Motors and Controls;
· Electrical/Electronic Metering Methods;
· Rotating Machines and Controls;
· Programmable Logic Controllers.
Working Conditions:
· Ability to work in extreme outdoors temperatures ranging from +30 ° C to -40 ° C.
· May be required to perform overtime.
· Possess normal physical agility necessary to perform all aspects of the work that involves bending, lifting and mobility.
· Capable of wearing and working in protective clothing and using equipment as required.
