Reports to: Network Support LeaderThis position is for the 2024 – 2025 SY (July 1st, 2024)Cleveland Metropolitan School District is looking for an experienced Elementary School Principal. The Principal position will report to the Network Support Leader. The Principal will have the primary responsibility for establishing his or her school as an active learning center with a focus on student engagement, professional support for teachers, instructional practices that lead to dramatic academic progress, and measurable results and lead to better outcomes for our schools and scholars.Riverside offers:

  • a robust and successful athletic program that includes girls and boys basketball, girls and boys track and field, girls volleyball, co-ed soccer and more
  • activities such as Model United Nations, chess and bridge and student leadership council
  • field trips to Cleveland’s zoo, aquarium, downtown and Washington, D.C. for 8th graders
  • community partnerships that provide tutoring, mentoring, music education and theatre programming
  • supports and resources for special needs and gifted students.

Responsibilities:

  • Establish his or her school as an active learning center with a focus on student engagement, professional support for teachers, instructional practices that lead to dramatic academic progress, and measurable results
  • Set ambitious school goals for student achievement and performance; hold staff members accountable for achieving results
  • Build relationships with all stakeholders including students, staff, faculty, parents, funders, board members, the school district, and the community
  • Hire, develop, and manage staff to grow leaders from within the school and create a culture of continuous professional development
  • Use data to inform practice and drive decision-making and instruction at the school
  • Manage a student-based budget for school building
  • Motivate faculty and help them use data to inform instructional decisions as partners in creating a learning-centered school culture
  • Define both high-priority goals that get immediate results and a long-term strategy for success
  • Implement and direct the implementation District and/or Board of Education policies and procedures
  • Meet important due dates and timelines as outlined by district
  • Perform other related duties as required

  • Master’s degree required
  • Strong record of helping students achieve academic success, primarily with minority and low-income students
  • Three to five years of K-12 classroom teaching experience.
  • Building or district level administrative experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience working effectively with urban schools, students and families, and outside partners with demonstrated exemplary results
  • Record of success in leading adults; prior experience with direct management and supervision
  • A passionate belief in the capacity of all children to learn and succeed and a sense of urgency about making that real for CMSD students
  • Possess an entrepreneurial spirit, be flexible, willing and able to play different roles at the school, and to go above and beyond to meet the varied and constant needs of CMSD scholars
  • Special training and/or experience with school turnaround highly desirable
  • Certification or eligibility for Alternative certification as required by Ohio Department of Education
