UNDP has a long-standing partnership with Small Island Developing States?(SIDS), with an estimated annual value of US$300m, supporting SIDS to advance national development priorities and respond to diverse challenges and opportunities.?UNDP’s?upgraded SIDS offer responds to their most pressing needs as well as greatest opportunities for accelerating sustainable development. Building on multipliers that promise to accelerate progress across the SDGs, and building on?UNDP’s?comparative advantage and specific expertise, UNDP is expanding its support in: Climate Action, developing Blue Economies and promoting Digital Transformation.

Context
The newly established UNDP Climate Hub is the arrowhead of UNDP’s commitment to the “Climate Promise” that aims to support programming countries designing and implementing pledges under the Paris Agreement, including ambitious National Determined Contributions, with climate change mitigation and adaptation interventions fully embedded in the national development planning and budgetary processes.

UNDP is recruiting online volunteers to support UNDP’s analysis on energy and climate, particularly in the context of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).

Data processing

Task description
(1) Review existing dataset of energy targets in Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), and synthesize thematic trends and summaries, e.g., on renewable energy, electrification, clean cooking, energy efficiency, transportation, and other areas.
(2) Collect data on energy and climate from existing global and regional datasets;
(3) Provide data visualisation and thematic summaries. Knowledge of programming languages such as R or Phython would be key.

Requirements
Required experience
Strong data analysis and visualization skills using digital tools and modelling software such as Python, R, and/or Tableau
Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
Knowledge of/familiarity conducting research on energy and climate related topics.

English, Level: Fluent, Required
