This is a high visibility role that requires U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government-issued security clearance.
The ideal candidate is passionate about making a substantial impact for this client through energy efficiency, renewable energy, energy resilience, and energy performance contracting, including performance assurance, measurement, and verification. He or she will have experience working on Energy Savings Performance Contracts (ESPCs) and Utility Energy Service Contracts (UESCs). The candidate will need to demonstrate professional interpersonal skills with the client as well as an ability to manage client expectations through concise, accessible, non-technical explanations of technical energy issues.
This position requires the candidate to provide client-facing engineering and management support services leading technical and analytic efforts, with project delivery, management, and procurement services focusing on a wide range of energy systems initiatives. The successful candidate has the capability to provide design, modeling, analysis, and planning services for solar photovoltaic and other renewable energy systems, energy storage, mini-grid, and/or other distributed energy systems. Additionally, the candidate will have experience with energy performance contracting, including project planning, implementation, and formal measurement and verification (M&V) processes.
The selected candidate will work closely with the GPTech’s Senior Program Manager for the project, the client Technical Project Manager, and other federal staff, to ensure that programmatic milestones and objectives are achieved.
This is a hybrid position and requires two days per week in the office. One of those days will be at the client site in Washington, DC, and the other will be in GPTech’s office in Arlington, VA.
Responsibilities:
Specific responsibilities of this position include:
- Serve as project manager and/or subject matter expert for assigned projects, including participation in routine recurring and ad-hoc meetings as required.
- Complete technical/economic and business case analyses of clean energy development projects.
- Lead facility energy systems technical analysis and conceptual design engineering efforts in support of project definition for implementation via ESPCs or UESCs, or direct federal funding.
- Lead tasks for engineering design and technical analysis of renewable energy systems and a wide range of energy delivery systems and energy storage applications.
- Provide technical and project management review of proposed energy performance contracts or other energy investment project plans.
- Coordinate multiple stakeholders across the client organization in the design, procurement, construction, and sustainment of facility energy projects.
- Lead reviews of M&V reporting for energy performance contracts.
- Provide internal and client-facing reports, presentations, and executive-level briefings to stakeholders and small groups (between 5 and 20 individuals) with varying degrees of subject matter exposure.
- Stay abreast of industry developments in energy efficiency and clean energy technologies and their implementation approaches.
- Provide support in business development opportunities and advancing the company’s clean energy initiatives and capabilities.
Qualifications:
- U.S. citizenship
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government-issued security clearance
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or physical science from a U.S. accredited institution
- 8 years of demonstrated experience in, or combination of, energy and/or electrical power system design and analysis and/or technical support with renewable energy systems, electric grid and utility operations, and distributed energy or standalone power resources
- Demonstrated experience working on ESPCs, UESCs, and/or M&V processes
- Native-level proficiency in U.S. English communication methods
- Demonstrated experience in coordinating diverse stakeholders in project design and development
- Understanding of technical characteristics and economic drivers of building energy technologies (e.g., heating, ventilation, air conditioning; indoor/outdoor lighting; distributed solar; energy storage)
- Demonstrated quantitative and qualitative analytical and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of energy-sector challenges, opportunities, and solutions, including utility tariffs, environmental issues, emissions mitigation or reduction, and infrastructure reliability and resiliency
- Proficiency in software tools for research, analysis, reporting, communications, and collaboration
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certified Energy Manager certification
- Professional Engineer license
- Knowledge of and experience with federal organizations, federal facility energy policies .and mandates, and energy management strategies and goals
- Experience with federal client expectation management
