- Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets and adjusts short-term priorities, and prepares schedules for completion of work. Assigns work to subordinates based on priorities, difficulty and requirements of assignments, and the capabilities of employees.
- Plans and coordinates a suite of major strategic engagements (conferences, seminars, workshops, symposia, round tables and discussions) with a strategic focus on Allies and partners of the United States.
- Serves as focal point for all issues, internal and external, as they relate to strategic engagements.
- Establishes and maintains relationships with partners, vendors, and venues to arrange the use of facilities and products.
- Ensures audio/visual and office automation equipment is on hand and operational while also coordinating and verifying necessary supplies for execution are on hand for all events.
- Maintains oversight and responsibility at an event facility to ensure plenary and seminar rooms are set up before the start of the event.
- Assists in the creation of and management of the strategic engagements short and long term calendars.

- Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
- Work may require to work outside normal and predetermined work schedule to accomplish mission requirements.
- Work may require travel away from the normal duty station to support workshops in the Arctic Region, or to attend meetings, work related symposiums, or courses relating to regional engagement operations on a non-regular basis.
QualificationsFor GS-11:
I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-09) or equivalent level in the federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) with Knowledge and skill in establishing and maintaining effective relationships with government, business, academic, and military persons, representing both U.S. and Arctic nations, and the ability to enhance their understanding of the role, mission, and uniqueness of the Center. Ability to write and communicate effectively.

If qualifying based on education for GS-11:
Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree
or
3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree
or
LL.M., if relatedFor GS-12:
I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-11) or equivalent level in the federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) with knowledge of, and sensitivity to, the various language, educational, and cultural differences that may be encountered when interfacing with attendees, and visitors from Arctic nations represented at the Center. Ability to plan, organize, draft/update brochure information, notebooks, and other printed material that will be used at strategic engagement official visits or workshops. Additionally, must be able to draft and compose letters, reports, information books, memos, proposals, and agendas.Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
