Details:Mission and objectives:The Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) is a global independent advocate for the prevention and elimination of all forms of violence against children. She acts as a bridge builder and a catalyst for action in all regions and across various sectors and settings where violence against children can occur. She mobilizes political support and encourages efforts to maintain momentum around this important agenda.The SRSG’s mandate is rooted in human rights standards, promoting the universal ratification and effective implementation of core international conventions. She collaborates closely with human rights bodies and mechanisms, as well as with UN funds, programs, specialized agencies, and regional organizations. Additionally, she promotes cooperation with national human rights institutions, civil society, faith-based organizations, the private sector, and directly with children.The SRSG employs various supportive strategies, including participating in strategic meetings at the international, regional, and national levels; identifying good practices and experiences across different regions, sectors, and settings; organizing field missions; and promoting thematic studies and reports.Context:This online volunteer opportunity is part of our broader effort to increase inclusivity and expand the reach of our advocacy work. By translating materials into all UN languages, we aim to make our resources more accessible and impactful for diverse audiences worldwide.Task type:Translation and InterpretationTask description:We are seeking Online Volunteers to support our translation efforts from English to Arabic for our revamped website, publications, and advocacy materials. This initiative will help make our work more accessible to Arabic-speaking audiences and strengthen our global advocacy efforts.Key Responsibilities:
Translate website content, including articles, webpages, and headings, as well as publications from English to Arabic.
Ensure translations are clear, concise, and culturally appropriate for the target audience.
Adhere to established communications guidelines and terminology to maintain consistency.
Selected volunteers will receive original documents, audience-specific guidance, and communication guidelines to ensure accuracy and coherence in translations.On average, the expected workload is:
First Two Weeks: Since the assignment includes website revamping, volunteers will initially focus on translating key web pages with a combined word limit of 5,000 words over two weeks (or 2,500 words per week).
Weekly: 2 news articles (approximately 600 words each) and 1 report (2,000 words every two weeks), totaling 2,200 words per week.Requirements:Native Arabic speaker with fluency in English
Familiarity with technical terminology related to violence against children (preferred)
Previous translation experience (considered an asset)Work Hours: 11 – 15
